Ashes of the Phoenix:

Phoenix Reborn

Chapter 1: Phoenix Takes Flight

************************************************************************

Eloin walked with her eyes cast down on the stone path of the garden. She looked at the cold windows of the palace. Sadly, she looked away. She resumed her trudging with a heavy sigh. Faster, a glint of gold reached to her from the autumn brushed hedges of the maze. Eloin looked towards the castle to see if anyone was watching or following her, and ran after the light glimpsing it occasionally. Her auburn hair streaked with the summers gold and orange gleamed in the sun and her eyes shown pale blue as her dress waltzed in the wind.

Eloin slows at the central fountain; it crumbled slightly at her approach. She looked the old thing up and down, and was transfixed by the fading paint of a green outline of a Phoenix, being slowly washed away by the falling water. Eloin reached through the warm water of summer and traced the outline of the mysterious Phoenix. As she traced the outline, Golden dust shimmered down from the sky and touched the fountain in a hushed whisper.

A cry of some sort of bird pierced the air. Eloin looked up to see a bird, a bird that was the color of the sun's rays. It gave an agonizing screech and burst into green flames. When the flames went down, the bird was nowhere; a small pile of ash was collecting on a cracked marble pillar directly underneath the receding green fire.

The sound of padded feet approached Eloin from behind, but the ash transfixed her so she didn't notice. Eloin heard the lapping of water.

"It leads such a sad life, " Eloin jumped and turned around to see a Silver wolv. It continued to speak, " but it always seem to return just as beautiful as before . . ." The wolv sighed, " and it will seek revenge for those that quicken its death."

" Akotor," Eloin stared at her adviser's yellow eyes, " What are you doing here and what are you trying to say?"

The wolv chuckled slightly, " I was just going for a walk and happened to barge in on the person I needed to see. " Eloin gave him her trademark, the blank stare. " Ahem! Rebels have been found in the City of Goala and in the Black Forest. I await your command my Queen." Akotor dipped his head as though bowing to Eloin.

She glanced at the pile of ashes, and smiled, " Do nothing, but please accompany Char and I when we visit that city today." ' Was is but three months ago?' Eloin sighed and closed her eyes, thinking, ' Yes, three months ago since I was found by the fabled hunter Haidryan, my other true friend.' Eloin looked at the wolv, " But while we are there, could you check for anyone with blonde hair and green eyes?"

' I miss her,' she though as she headed for the exit of the maze, ' I have a funny feeling that she is still alive. Haidryan was always ahead of the game.'

Eloin left Akotor alone in the center circle of the maze. The silver wolv started to follow, but was stooped by the movement of the ash. A beak of a bird poked up. The ash on the pedestal molded together to create a fiery dark red Phoenix. The Phoenix looked at Akotor with recognition and bowed its head before taking flight into the forest. Akotor watched the bird disappear into the Black Forest and let out a small sigh.

' I lost my pup,' Akotor thought as he started towards the castle, ' Arwin is nothing more than a shadowed memory, I am glad my mate didn't see her daughters demise.' Akotor let out a long, forlorn howl, sending birds that were perched on the castle roof to fly away.
