Friendship
by Joyce Reid

Oh, friends, think on friendship;
Do you know what in it lies?
It is the bond we call devotion,
It is the strength to carry on,
Not the superficial notion
To pledge your love and then be gone.
It is the testing of a faith
You began so early on
To confide in those you cherish
And will love your whole life long.
It gives a definition
To the word called loyalty
Which charms a willing spirit
To undying charity.
In its garden smiles flourish
And blossom fully in the sun.
It is the link of pure humility:
Each to trust the other one.
