Twilight’s Star
by Joyce Reid

A silent star
Winks across the meadow
And nods good-night to day’s last light
Falling beneath the hills.

Through the trees
Autumn’s memories echo
Though winter’s chill and breathless still
Holds captive twilight’s star.

This spark of light
Enthroned on evening’s pillow
Can from its nest of peace and rest
Bring hope to those it views.

A curtain falls
Draping land in shadow.
Sun’s misty sprays of glowing rays
Fade with calm submission.

The heavens blush
And wonder from their window
If they’re too bold to gently hold
The evening twilight’s star.
