Into Darkness Shines a Light
by Joyce Reid

The world is cruel and evil,
The road grows ever black.
Thorns spring up, entangling all;
The wild things snarl and snap.

Life a pointless living death
Wandering aimless ever on:
Terror, torment, and despair.
The path is frightfully long.

But into our world of darkness
Shines a ray of hope and peace.
In its presence blackness shivers,
For its glory faint hearts seek.

Those who trust in the first glimmer
Will see the brilliance quickly grow,
Shedding light on what was hidden,
Guiding footsteps with the glow.

In this beam of true forgiveness
Darkness melts away.
And in place of thorns and thistles
Appears the straight and narrow Way.
