Dusk falls on empty streets
Lined in black and grey houses
Walk past
And see the flashing synthetic greens, reds, blues
Bouncing off the wall
Cast gaze down towards the lamppost
Its yellow bulb encircled by moths with tattered wings
Fighting to draw near
Bats, purple, black and glistening
Flap noiselessly-
Could I catch one and fly on its back?
To another place?
Perhaps to one that's not as hauntingly bleak-
From which all color is drained
Save one flashing TV
