Love's Paradigm
Dear heart.
It has been mine intention for some time
To inform thee that my leaving was in no way thy fault.
Understand only, dear one, that it will be better, this way, for both of
us.
I, too, thought our love would span forever.
And though it doth rend my heart -
For thou art my heart, wholly and verily -
This is the way it must be. It may not seem so now,
But I promise it will become apparent soon.
We must stay apart forever.
Do not ask me, dearest, what passed between us
That we should have to part, for I do not know.
Dwell not on the past.
Instead, look to the future in the night sky
And in the stars and the rain.
Know that the world is infinitely large and the universe is infinite in
itself.
The stars are your future.
Thou willst find another to love thee as I did.
But you already did, didn't you?
We must never see each other again. Never again may I look upon thy face
And know that I have found home.
Never (forever) is a very long time.
Strengthen thy heart and thy spirit. Thy future shines bright before thy
feet, untrodden.
Thy future lives amongst the heavens. Thou willst go forward and do good
for the rest of thy days.
I love thee -
I hate you -
But now our love must span not only time but unthinkable distances.
I would not hope that thou wouldst think of me with kindness
But know that thou hast touched me in a way that -
Burns me, hurts me, rends my heart -
Changed my life forever.
Our relationship, if nothing else, was -
Educational.
It's funny, isn't it?
To look up and admire the stars,
As every human in imaginable history has done,
Is to admire -
The future -
death.
What are stars but echoes of a lost past,
Sent to us over unthinkable distances,
So that we might glimpse an age long past?
To think they tell the future is -
Magic, romantic -
Folly. Ridiculous. Absurd.
To think that there is some meaning in the ghosts of stars .
There is your future, dear one.
You will live
and grow old
and die
and be forgotten.
I can't hate you enough for breaking my heart.
But I will forget you.
And with me, shall your legacy wither and vanish.
No one, fifty years from now, will remember your name.
Never again will your name be spoken.
Never, forever, is a very long time.
