DISCLAIMER: That’s Freedom belongs to John Farnham.
AUTHOR’S NOTES: This story’s title comes from one of my all-time favorite songs. You can find the song on the album We the People, which I have been desperately searching for online. If anyone finds it, please tell me as my copy is getting old and it’s my favorite album. If you’re a member of the Hate-America-First crowd, you’ll find this piece offensive and I care as much about that as I do about whether or not France approves of the War on Terror.
THAT’S FREEDOM
What’s freedom?
Freedom is a reason to live
And a reason to die
Freedom means never worrying about being arrested because someone doesn’t agree with your views
And knowing you can speak your mind without fear.
Freedom is choosing what you want to be
And your only limitation is yourself
Freedom is a small government
That takes as little money from you as possible
Freedom is being allowed to worship whichever god you want however you want to
And own whichever religious book you want and not have to hide it
Freedom is the ability to dress how you like
Be it preppy or classic or trashy
Freedom isn’t free
It was paid for in blood by others who loved it more than their own lives
Freedom must never be taken for granted
Because someday we could wake up and find it stolen from us
We must fight and struggle to preserve it
And make sure that our Founders’ work
And our young men’s sacrifice
Is not in vain
That’s freedom
