Chapter 1

Rain

Rain. That's all it's been doing for days. It was 1 AM, and pretty much everyone was inside, warm, dry, sleeping in their cozy little beds. Me? I wasn't quite that lucky. I was outside, cold, soaked and had nowhere to go, because of my dang landlord. I never did like that idiot in the first place, and what he just pulled on me didn't exactly help our relationship any. I looked down at myself, my black jacket was wet, my T-shirt was bloody, and my pants wern't exactly in mint condition either. Sighing, I leaned up against a nearby streetlight, closed my eyes and started to hum to myself, knowing it'd be a long night.

I must of fell asleep for awhile, because next thing I knew, I felt a tap on my shoulder. When I opened my eyes, I was sitting on the ground, and there was someone standing beside me. As I looked up, I met the eyes of a cop.

"What're you doing out here this late at night?" he demanded, glaring down at me. I tried to hide the fact I was nervous although I wasn't sure I could pull it off this late at night.

"Well...I have nowhere to go uh...sir..." Good job Marth...

"You'll have to come with me..." He replied, looking down at me.

"Am I in trouble, officer?" I asked, in a slightly mocking tone.

"Just get in the damn car!" He snapped at me, giving me a glare that could melt lead. Reluctantly, I slowly got up and tiredly wandered toward the car. Flopping down on the backseat, I felt the warmth of the heater. It really felt great, being warm and all, especially since it was -2 outside and I was soaked to the bone, so I felt good. I almost felt like sleeping, but I decided against it. Tired, I looked at the dashboard clock. 1:45. Wonderful. I looked outside, and saw the cop dude talking on his radio. I couldn't hear what he was saying, but I wasn't about to go ask what he was doing with the look he had on his face. He looked really ticked. Then again, I'd be ticked too if I had to have the Graveyard shift. Soon enough, he got in the car, and we started our long drive to god knows where.

It was quiet for pretty much the whole trip. He tried to make conversation with me, but each time, I was either too tired to answer, not listening, or ignoring him altogether. I was boredly watching out the window, watching the buildings go by, when we pulled into a big building. It was too dark to see the sign, but I had a feeling it was the police station. It must've been the policecars parked in the parking lot that gave it away. The cop got out, and opened my door for me. Stumbling out, I followed him inside, where we ended up in a dark corridor. We walked through a bunch of different corridors until we finally came to a door at the end of a hall. He paused for a minute, then opened the door. Bright light spilled into the hall and I shielded my eyes. When I could see again, we were in a big room with lots of cops walking around, socializing, and eating donuts. The smell of coffee wafted into my nostrils. "God, I could use some of that." I thought as I sat down on a chair by the heater. All I wanted was warmth, shelter and sleep, and I guess 2 out of 3 aint bad at all. The cop guy that brought me here went into a nearby office. He could stay there for all I care. Unfortunately, he came back out, and motioned for me to follow him. I didn't want to leave the heat, but I didn't want heat from the cops either, so I stumbled over, extremely tired. As we entered, I saw another cop behind the desk. He was alot larger than the other one, and he wore a different type of uniform. He was probably the chief, but it's not like I care anyway...

"Alright, show me some I.D. kid." he said, spraying the donut he was chewing all over me. Flinching slightly, I handed over my drivers liscence. I only got the thing last week, and It was comforting to know I was 16 and I may have a criminal record already. "Lloyd, eh? Your hair naturally blue?" He asked, slightly mocking me. If he wasn't a cop, and I wasn't so tired, I'd be about ready tp punch him out, but I managed to hold my temper.

"Brown..." I replied, glaring at him.

"Well, well..." He said, shaking his head. "Such a young lad, and already caught up with the cops...we're gonna have to take this away." He said, waving my drivers liscence in front of my face.

"Go right ahead, I'll drive without it..." I defiantly replied, my glare hardening.

"Neh, I'm just teasing yeh, you're fine." He chuckled, sending another blast of donut in my face. "We're just gonna have to put you in a holding cell for the night, cant keep you out there, eh?"

"Yeah, whatever..." I replied, starting to think being outside may not be that bad. We got up, and he took me down the hall, beginning my long journey to slumber.
