Within the
darkness
Chapter 1 Ray of Hope
It was once said that only light can defeat the darkness,
and, once long ago, it was true. But that was before Daray killed Aurora, the
goddess of dawn, before she could pull the sun over the horizon. Now a misty
veil of darkness surrounds Earth, at last the darkness has taken hold.
Every human on the planet fell
to the darkness, becoming the slaves of the demons that now rule the planet.
The humans stood no chance, had no choice but to obey the demons that were
their masters, for if they fought they were annihilated instantly.
It was the year 7031,
springtime. A child was born, her eyes shining with an odd light, something
nobody had seen in over four thousand years, sunlight.
The raw power of the sun had
been broken down, disguised in human form, it had been done nearly every one
hundred years, and every time Daray killed the Earth's final hope of salvation
from the darkness.
Now the child, grown to the age
of sixteen, must begin a quest to save the sun, to raise it far above the
raging darkness, to the faces of all humans.
Sabah awoke to another black day, her mother was shaking her, "Honey, your going to
be late. you know how Braedon gets when anyone of you is
late in getting to his chamber."
"I know mom." Sabah grumbled,
jumping out of bed and running a brush through her silky white hair before
running from the room, she skidded to a halt just outside of the main chamber.
The demon that Sabah was chosen to care for was one of
the cruelest in the world, he loved to cause suffering to all those whom served
him, daily he beat his slaves, just to hear their cries of pain. Children as
young as three have met the fury of his whip, leaving them unable to walk for
days, Sabah cared for them and took over their
chores, along with her own, while they rested.
Whenever the demon whipped Sabah she remained silent, not a single
cry escaped her lips. This frustrated the demon and he hit her all the much
harder.
That
day Sabah's chores were to
simply to clean the chamber, after she was done she slipped off to her room
where she saw her mother looking at her with a forlorn look in her eyes.
"What's wrong mom?" She asked quietly.
"Sweetie," Her mother
began sadly, choking back tears, "You are the last hope of mankind. the sun lives within you, you are the one chosen to raise
the sun from its dark grave. you are after all aware
of the legend?"
Sabah shook her head yes, (the legend is
told in the intro.) "Then you should understand the dangers of your
mission."
"But mother- the
children." Sabah
said, choking back her words.
"I will care for them,
just go now, go to your duty and raise the sun above the dark cloud that surrounds
us." Her mother said, "Now pack your things."
Sabah then realized something, "What
will Braedon do to you when he realizes what you have done?" She said in a
strangled whisper.
"Don't worry about that
now." Her mother said handing her a tan backpack, "Take whatever you
need."
Tears welled up in Sabah's eyes, "But- how will I guard
myself against the Komakians?"
Her mother's face paled,
"Use this dagger. it belonged to an ancestor of
your father's" Her mother's voice choked at the memory. Sabah's father had
been ripped apart before their eyes by Braedon when he had hit the demon for
hitting his daughter, the memory was forever burned into Sabah's memory, there
had been so much blood everywhere, "hopefully it will give you luck so
that you don't have to worry about them." Her mother's voice brought Sabah back from the gruesome memory.
"B-but mother." Sabah knew that she was only stalling but
she didn't want to travel alone in the darkness beyond the city.
"Sabah. please."
Her mother begged, "Don't let your fears overcome you, every being on this
planet is counting on you to raise the sun, drench the planet in light."
Sabah sighed and grabbed the bag, "I
love you so much mother, and if Braedon touches you I will personally rip him
to shreds."
After saying this Sabah ran into her room and threw what
little belongings she had into a bag. Afterwards she threw on a black cloak
with a hood, and hooked the dagger in its sheath underneath of it.
The tattered curtains covering
her window billowed in a forewarning wind as Sabah took one last look around the room,
"Goodbye," She whispered, disappearing into the darkness.
A slight movement by her bed
went unnoticed as a komakian switched positions lazily. The creature was
beautiful in appearance, face as pale as ivory or as tan as leather, these
creatures could 'shift' their bodies into whatever forms they choose. You would
never know that you were speaking to a komakian until he had you pinned to the
ground, poisonous fangs at your throat, when that happened you were done for
unless, somehow you could pull away and ward them away with some sort of
weapon, seven thousand years ago they appeared, and were known in another time
as 'vampires' they sucked the soul from a body, leaving the soulless body as a
mindless minion. If the komakian truly wished that the person whose soul they
were stealing would join them, then they'd leave some of the soul behind and
give up a part of their own, thus the person becomes a komakian.
A/N
This is the first chapter of
hopefully many more to come there are several names that I have made up that
will appear in the next couple of chapters. if you
don't understand where the food comes from then don't ask. just
kidding. for the demons it is human flesh, the humans
chosen for this are specially raised to be slaughtered as they reach their
fullest size, which takes a while. the humans eat the
flesh of dead demons, demons that had disgraced the world. that
at least is my version. I'm sure that this story is totally original and
imaginative. R&R plz!!!
