Chapter 1 – Thinking about you…
Mary's P.O.V.
Its such a nice sunny day outside but here I am sitting in one of the library chairs, wasting my lunch away. I dazed out of staring out and into space and just heard the last thing that my best friend, Alyssa had said. She looked at me with her large dark amber orbs pleadingly. “…so will you do my fortune please Mary?” I turned my eyes to look at her fully and grinned slightly unenthusiastically. “Sure why not?” I replied nonchalantly. I shuffled the deck of cards that were in my hands. I placed them in her hands and she cut the deck and returned them to me. I placed them on the table and turned them over. I looked at them I saw something that was very weird.
I drew my breath deeply, wondering why on Earth something that had to do with me were shown in her kismet. ‘It was the same thing I saw yesterday. But it can’t be… Yesterday. Was. Just…’ I thought rapidly. Alyssa must’ve seen me look at the cards in a strange way and asked, clearly concerned “What’s wrong? Is it bad? I knew it! Well Mary what is it?” “Its nothing don’t worry Alyssa. Its not you so you can just chill. Ummm…” I replied, as I touched one of the cards that lay lifelessly on the table.
I hesitated a bit before explaining. “A friend of yours is denying something that they don’t wanna admit it. And umm… two of your friends are…” I purposely mumbled incoherently, trailing off. Alyssa had leant forward across the table, trying her hardest to hear the last words. “What was that Mary? I didn’t quite hear the last bit.” A large nervous grin appeared on my face. “Its nothing the rest of your fortune says that you’ll face a hard confrontation. And then its all good!” She eyed me suspiciously, but gave up knowing that I could be as stubborn as a pig when I wanted. A innocent look came upon her face. But the sly grin, showed that she was up to something. “Ok then. Why don’t you do yours? I mean I haven’t seen you do yours in a while you know!” My eyes dulled, and unfocused a bit and I knew that I was going to have a flashback anytime now. True to my words a scene flooded into my brain.
As per routine, I called out “Mom I’m goin’ to sleep now… Good night!,” from my bedroom door. My mom’s shrill yet motherly voice called back “Ok sweetie. Good night and sweet dreams…” I nodded silently to myself and closed the door just as she finished her sentence. I plopped onto my soft comfortable bed, when a thought drifted into my mind. “Hmm… I haven’t been doing my fortune lately,” I sighed absentmindedly knowing the reason. “… probably because I’ve been getting waaaayyyy too much assignments lately. I guess I could do it now.” Convincing my conscience, I picked up the deck of cards from atop my study table and I sat down on my bed. I moved some of my things on my bed, and drew in a deep breath. “Ok…”
I picked up the cards and started to shuffle. I put the cards down and turned them over. I gasped softly as I looked down at them. I stared at them with shock. There were two cards facing each other. I looked at them my eyes large, and my mind going haywire. ‘OOHHHHHH MMMMMYYYYYY GGGGOOOOSSSHHH!!!! These two cards. They. Can’t Mean. What. . They. Mean!!! Can they?!’ I shook my head and countered silently, ‘ OF COURSE I DOES!!!’
I looked at the cards before I
grabbed all the cards and put them back in their box. I held the box in my hand
and stared at it, while I recounted what I had seen. I saw two cards a queen
facing a jack but the jack was in denial. It was getting late, so I put the
cards away and turned off the light. I jumped
back to my bed and sat there thinking. I looked out of the windows at
the stars and the moon, and I thought about HIM. I smiled softly and said to
myself… ‘Nah it ain’t real.’
Alyssa’s P.O.V.
Mary’s eyes dulled and unfocused a bit before she stared into space again. I left her to think a while, but grew anxious, when I looked to the library clock, which told me it had been five minutes. I shook her arm lightly, trying to get her out of her daze. “Mary? Mary?! MARY..!!” Mary jumped slightly as she snapped back into reality. I was really worried about her this time. She always does this and this time it was for 5 whole minutes. My flash backs never took THAT long. I knew they were flash backs but I never told her that.
”Are you ok? I mean you’ve been in a daze for about 5 minutes now. What happened?” I asked worriedly. She smiled slightly trying to convince me that she was fine. But when my eyebrows crinkled and an eyebrow rose, she sighed outwardly and said, “I’m fine. Thanks for being worried. I’ll try not to do it anymore ok?” I nodded, my anxiety slowly fading.
Just then we heard a couple of guys bantering as they came into the library. We looked at the entrance of the library. I froze. It was HIM. My crush. The guy I’ve been daydreaming about for around uhh… 5 - 6 weeks during class. I smiled.
I ran after the soccer ball absentmindedly as I thought, my mind running wild. “I wonder. What will happen if I told Ruben… I liked him?” “Alyssa!!” I jumped out of my thoughts, at the sound of his voice and got hit by the ball. Hard. I fell down and the game was put on a time out. All my team’s players came over to see if I was badly injured. I looked up at them and smiled slightly embarrassed.
Angela and Jeremy came over to see if I needed some serious help or brought home. Those two always looked out for me. They always came to my games, whenever they had the time and cheered. I saw Angela’s worried face and Jeremy’s mouth opening, but I reassured them before a word could be said. “ I’m fine you two. Please don’t worry about me.” Angela began to open her mouth, surely to tell me that I was out of my mind, thinking that I was fine. But Ruben had arrived with the first aid kid, and asked everyone to give me some air. He bent down and looked into my eyes. His eyes were full of concern, but he tried covering them up.
“Tell me where it hurts ok?” I nodded and pointed at the place where I had been hit. He put his hand down on my leg and tried to find for a soft spot or a bruise. He bandaged it up and helped me up. Everyone had mitigated with the exception of Jeremy, Angela and Ruben. A sudden and strong pain shot up my leg just as I stood up and I *accidentally* fell on top of him. I looked down at him to apologize but saw his face. He was grinning wickedly. This scared me, and I tried to get up quickly knowing he had something up his sleeve.
But unfortunately he was way quicker
than me due to my leg and pinned me down so that he was facing me looking down.
I looked up into his victorious looking face. We both started laughing. I kept
giggling, but he had stopped. He had reddened slightly and turned away. He
stood up and held out his hand. I stood up and I leaned onto his shoulder for
support. “Thanks a lot Ruben.” “No problem Lis.”
Daniel looked over to our direction. He looked at me smirked, which might I
say, was gladly returned. Then he turned to Mary. He didn’t really do much but
slightly smile, but walked in our direction anyway. Ruben saw us waved
enthusiastically and came over to our table. “Hey guys!” he greeted. Daniel
came over to Mary’s side and ruffled up her hair, the way he had been doing
every since seventh grade. He looked over Mary’s shoulder and asked “Whatcha
doin?” Mary looked at me and said, “Nothing we were just doing our
fortunes.” Ruben looked down at the
cards that were still in the positions that Mary had left them. I quickly
messed them up. I knew Ruben knew how to read the cards. Mary and Ruben were
close family friends. I smiled a little too innocently, when he let out a
little, “Aww…”
Mary’s P.O.V.
Ruben ruffled her head and she did the same, after scowling at him for doing so. In a few seconds they were running around the library trying to ruffle each other’s hair. I let out a little smile. ‘How cute…’ I looked up next to me where Daniel and I were left to watch the two best friends run around the library and get in trouble from the librarian for doing so.
Angela’s P.O.V.
I laughed inwardly as I watched Alyssa and Ruben get themselves into trouble again by the librarian. Those guys have been in the library ever since they found out that there was a library in this school. Every lunch and every recess, unless they had to eat or practice soccer or had something else to do, they would be in here, trying to spend or kill the time that they had. ‘Its senior year and the last that we’ll be here in this school. Wow how the time flies by.’
Roselle hits my playfully on the arm to get me out of my thoughts. “Angela? Hey whatcha thinking? I hope you ain’t like this during our retreat…” She said frowning. I smiled at her and replied “Don’t worries… and no I ain’t gonna be like this during camp. We’ll be having too much fun to be doing much thinking. Three days till camp. I can’t wait to go! We’ll have Jess, You, Me, Alyssa, and Jelai in our cabin.”
She frowned at my blabbering. She knows me much too well. “Stop your blabbering Angela! What were you thinking about? Hmm?” I smiled at her slightly letting out my sadness. “I was just thinking about how it’s the last year we’re gonna be here… and… maybe together.” She sighed and rolled her eyes. “Most of us will still be together. But we still have the most of the whole year together.” She pointed out and changed the subject. “Oh and by the way! Have you gone shopping for your camping stuff? And have you started packing your bag?”
I brought my hand up to my heart and pretended to be shot. “Oh! She caught me.” She swatted me and I laughed. “Nah! I haven’t had much time on my hands now a days. You know how it is. We’ve had like heaps assignments and I’ve barely made a dent in them.” “Naw… I need a shopping partner.” She said. “Why don’t you ask Jelai? I’m pretty sure she’ll be willing to get out of the house.” “Fine, fine. Too bad the girls are away today.”
The shrill sound of the bell going off rang all over the school campus. I heard Roselle groan, and I looked at my timetable, which told me my next class. “Don’t sound so enthusiastic to get to your next class!,” I slightly moved away from her as she glared with me. “Anyways… I’ve got to get to my Info Tech class.” I saw Mary heading towards the exit and I called her name. “Hey Mary, walk with you to class?” She smiled at me. “Why not we’ve got the same class!” I waved good-bye to Roselle and walked with Mary to class.
“Hey! Mary, I’ve been noticing that *someone* is keeping a good eye on *someone*. If you know what I mean. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge!” She groaned and ran ahead of me to class. “Hey! Don’t leave me behind!” Mary turned to reveal an evil grin on her face. I looked at her with my mock shocked expression, and ran after her all the way to our Info Tech class.
To be continued…
A/N: this WAS a story that I had up on my account before but I decided to edit it, coz after reading and writing for a little longer, I found it wayyy to simple and yeah… it didn’t come to my standards. Ja matta have fun reading! Also please excuse the bad writing style that I use when coming to the guys’ P.O.V [ Point Of View ] I’m not exactly a guy and I can’t imagine being one.
