The elderly man paced the sidewalk, as if waiting for something. Then, he turned to the stoplight, shortly after the light had turned green.
He paced some more, until the light changed to yellow, followed by a bright red. He then cringed as a car with a blaring stereo came to stop at the light. The driver was a young teenage girl.
The girl drove to the stoplight, and tapped her foot on the gas pedal, impatiently. She turned the radio down, as she grew tired of the song. Looking out the window, she observed an old, bearded man on the sidewalk; then noticed the fly on her window, blocking a bit of her view, and grew annoyed.
The fly crawled towards the edge of the window, moving ever more closer to freedom; completely unaware of the monster glaring at it.
The man paced some more, thinking of all the young people he had once known, being reminded of the war in 1945. All this being triggered by the girl in the car beside him. The warmth of the August sun sent him right back to the most horrific day he would ever encounter. 'These young people today have no idea how good they have it today.'
The girl tapped her foot harder now, thinking of how much her family thought her a disgrace. Pulling on a few strands of her long, black hair, she thought of her grandfather, the only man who ever understood her, who had passed on a few years back. All this being back to her by the vision of the man beside her. 'no one can replace what all I've lost, stupid people who try.'
The fly flew all about the car, being disturbed by the girl's sudden move of her hand to her hair, frightened that she might kill it in the process. 'Freedom, freedom. Where are you?' Suddenly, the window slid down, and the fly flew out.
End.
