Chapter 7

Azrael stirred from beneath his blankets, regaining his strength from his few short hours of sleep since he got back. He stretched himself lazily, and finally detecting the heavy scent of his kills on him. His dark navy green shirt looked as though it had been dyed red. Fumbling into the bathroom, he noted the dried red splotches on his reflection’s face.

“ Oh man, couldn’t those guys die in a cleaner way…” He muttered as he stepped into the shower.

Half an hour later he was already packing his few belongings into his bag and ready to move out when he heard a doorbell rang several times, urgently. “ Boy, this family sure has early visitors.” He glanced at his watch; it was just around eight in the morning.

Curiosity stuck him and he placed his light bag of belongings aside, and went downstairs.

The scene, which met him, left him dumbfounded.

Tyet was sobbing, in the arms of Wei.

A million questions surfaced in Azrael ’s mind. “Why is Tyet crying? What happened? Oh damn it, why is Wei here? They know each other? Oh my god, what did Wei do to Tyet?”

The last thought lingered in his mind as he met Wei ‘s green eyes. Without stopping to think, Azrael sprint towards them and gave Wei a punch across the cheeks. His action was met with a very stun look from the other two. It was then that he had the feeling that he had done something very inappropriate.

Fortunately, Wei spoke before he could spurge himself into further embarrassment.

“ Nice to meet you, I am Wayne.”

“ Hai, I am Azrael.” He coughed out, flashing Wei an eternally grateful look. Then he remembered Tyet.

Tyet was staring blankly at the two guys in front of her and clutching a note tightly in her right fist. Her face was glistening with tears, but she had stopped crying.

“ Tyet? You okay? What happen?” Azrael was looking at her worriedly, then confusedly, as Tyet started to giggle. Wayne sighed exasperatedly and ushered the other two to the living room as though it was his house.

“ You guys are so funny, who would greet each other after getting punched?” From a corner of her eye, Tyet saw Wayne rubbing his bruised cheek and a very confused Azrael. Wayne took the letter that she had clearly forgotten about, from her hand and threw it to Azrael. “ Her aunt and uncle just left the country, leaving her behind with this house and you.”

“How could they?! What kind of relatives are they to dump their niece with just a house and huh? And me?”

“ Someone whose rent every month is supposed to pay for her daily expenses.” Tyet started at the floor, missing the look that the other two exchanged.

“ Every month rent…”

“ Yes, every month. You are planning to stay for long term right? Azrael?” Wayne’s sarcastic words made Azrael wince. He was definitely getting back at me for that punch, Azrael thought.

“ Tyet, I think his bruise is getting swollen. Do you mind getting some ice for him?” Azrael murmured softly to the girl. “ Okay.”

Seeing Tyet disappear into the kitchen, Azrael frowned angrily at Wayne. “ Wayne huh? Sound really like your real name, but what are you doing here?”

“ I am her best friend.” Wayne stated indifferently.

“ I am going back to sleep, its too early in morning to deal me such a blow.” Azrael rubbed his temples tiresomely.

“ Looks like you can’t leave anymore.”

“ Man, I cannot stay here. Those demons would find me then her.”

“You are her only source of income now. Hope you have money.”

“ God, you are missing the point! I could just go out there and rob some bank or something for money, it’s the demons finding her!”

“ It would be more worrying to leave her alone.”

“ What about you? Can’t you stay or something? I can settle the money part.”

“ That would be unusual. I do not go renting a room, when i own an apartment already. Besides as you said last night, I got to gather the other three. If your dad’s coming over to take over this world, you and me are useless. So, you stay and protect her. And pay rent.”

“ Gimme a break. You know I cannot control my berserk self properly, what happen if I end up killing her?!”

“ I don’t mind breaking some of your bones in return for the punch you gave me.” Wayne added with a wry smile. “ Don’t worry, you won’t. History mentioned that all of the guardians have a soft spot for the heir or heiress they had protected. You know that?”

“ Did you …”

They hushed as Tyet entered the room, carrying a bag of ice. Wayne took it from her thankfully.

Tbc.

A/N: I realized tt this story is kinda idiotic, so I dun think I might be continuing from here unless someone ask me to.
