"Say, Kurt, you don't think they'll mind us being here, do you? I
mean, is this a family thing?" Rupert had his hands jammed into the pockets
of his blue pressed pants
"Of course it's not a family thing, you wanker. They aren't all
family," Tom shook his head and looked away from Rupert.
Kurt laughed, "They won't mind it," he said, leaning back onto a tree
behind him. "In fact, they'll probably think its swell."
The four boys were standing outside the mess hall, waiting for the
girls to come out. They were all in their leather jackets to protect them
from the cool autumn wind, but the wind still nipped at their ears and made
the tips of their noses pink.
No one really spoke after that, but about five minutes later, Tom
spoke up impatiently.
"Where the hell are they? They've been in there for ages!"
Kurt just laughed and ran his hand over his chin. "You don't know from
nothing about girls, do you?" he chuckled. He was used to the fact that it
could take his sister an hour to put on one sock.
Tom looked disgruntled, "Of course I KNOW. I just mean, they're
dressed and everything. What the hell else could they be doing?"
Dan opened his mouth to speak on behalf of Kurt, but just as he did
so, the door to the mess hall opened.
"Is it just me, or does everyone else's feet feel like they got run
over by a lorry?" MJ took a few pained steps out of the door.
"You're just not used to heels, that's all," Alex told her.
MJ groaned and grabbed a hold of Eve's shoulder, just as Eve came out
the door. She bent over to begin taking off her shoes, but Eve looked
concerned.
"? Are you sure you want to go with no shoes.?" she asked, but MJ
looked up from the shoe she was attempting to unbuckle very slowly, with a
look in her eye that told Eve exactly what she thought about the subject.
".Ok. I guess you're sure then!" Eve said uncomfortably.
"There they are." Rupert said, stating the blatantly obvious.
"Of course they're there. We can all see them," Dan said, not looking
at Rupert, but at the group of girls.
Kurt clenched his jaw. He was suddenly very awkwardly aware of the
girls walking towards him, Especially the dark haired one in the middle. He
watched the way she walked- her head tilted slightly to the side, and her
eyes down. All the girls walked differently. Alex walked with her shoulders
back and her head high but crooked, MJ took long swaying steps and Riley
with strong determined ones, staring ahead. He saw Eve pull her jacket
closer to her, and as she did so, a lock of her hair was blown across her
cheek. He knew she must be cold and thought that maybe-
"KURT!" Alex cried, seeing him for the first time, completely ruining
the moment in Kurt's mind. She ran up to him and as she got there, she
jumped and flung her arms around his neck, hanging off of him. "Ohmigosh
Kurt, did you see that? Wasn't is AMAZING? I can't believe it! It was
! Augh! Did you SEE it?!"
Kurt choked, "Yeah.I " he gasped. "."
She hung there, a dreamy look in her eyes. "Yeah. it was, wasn't it."
"? Could off me? I'm having a hard
" he choked.
"Oh. Yeah, sure." He let go of his neck and he rubbed it, just as the
rest of the girls caught up.
Kurt's stomach felt heavy all of a sudden.
"Excited enough?" MJ laughed, rolling her eyes.
"Hey. It was a big thing, MJ," Alex stated.
Riley just shrugged.
It was then that the three of them noticed the boys standing behind
Kurt awkwardly.
MJ raised her eyebrows, as if to ask 'who's that' and Riley sort of
nodded her head towards Kurt to get Alex to ask.
"Hey, Kurt-" Alex asked, but Kurt didn't hear her. He was too busy
looking at Eve who was, at that moment, burning holes into the ground with
her eyes. She was determined not to look up, because she knew if she did
she'd look at Kurt. Unfortunately, she didn't have that much control of
herself, and cursing herself internally, her eyes flicked up and she knew
that they'd find Kurt no matter where he was/
Surprisingly, though, he was looking straight back at her.
"Hi," he said simply.
She flushed. "Hello."
"I didn't know you could sing so well," he told her, his hands in his
pocket.
"What do you think all those singing lessons were for, huh? Because I
wanted to be close to Mrs. Kinsman?" she laughed. He smiled.
"Kurrrt," Alex whined impatiently, looking at the boys behind him.
"Kurt? Kurt! Augh, do I have to do everything myself?" she grumbled,
stomping her foot.
With a big heaving sigh, she took a few steps forward and stretched
out her hand. "Hello," she said, grinning, "I'm Alex, Kurt's sister. Are
you Kurt's bunk mates?"
Rupert took her hand awkwardly and shook it. "Rupert Grint," he said
in a his slow accent, "And yes, we are."
Alex's blue eyes widened. Slowly, but surely she raised her fist, and
for a horrifying moment, Rupert was sure she was about to punch him in the
face. She drew her hand back, fist balled, and just as Rupert began to back
away, she turned on her heel and punched Kurt as hard as she could in the
arm.
"Why didn't you tell me you had English roommates!" she cried.
Kurt clutched his arm from the surprising blow, "What?!"
"Why. Didn't. You. Tell. Me. You. Had. English. Roommates! You know,
as in, people you stay with who happen to be from England?"
Kurt looked at her as if she had completely lost it. "You just got
here?" he rubbed his arm, "When the hell was I supposed to tell you?"
Alex flailed her arms around angrily as she spoke, "I dunno, maybe
when you were talking to your precious Eve? I mean, it's not as if she
wouldn't have spoken to you five seconds later- or any other time in the
history of the world. I'm sure no matter what she'd find time to talk to
you. Why THAT is, I have no idea, though!"
There was silence.
Everyone looked at Kurt, who was looking at Eve who was looking at
Alex who looked shocked she had just said that. The look passed, however,
when a second later she recovered her anger and slapped a determined look
on her face.
Eve's face was horrified. She turned to MJ and Riley, but all MJ could
do was suppress a laugh and Riley just stared.
Alex couldn't believe that after all this time she'd let the cat out
of the bag. She hadn't MEANT to tell Kurt about Eve's just sort of
slipped out. But then again, she hadn't said it completely outright, so it
wasn't her fault if he came to that conclusion. At least that's what she
reasoned with herself.
Eve's lip quivered, but other than that, everything was still in
shocked silence, and no one knew what to say.
Alex felt rather than saw someone push past her. He took her hand, and
in an effort to break the stunned silence, he kissed it softly. "The name's
Felton, Tom Felton," he said swiftly.
Alex turned slowly do him. She shot him a disgusted look and then, to
the whole group grumbled, "Well it's not like everyone didn't know already!
Jeeze! Except maybe," she glanced at Tom, who was still holding her hand,
and gave him another vehement look, trying to think of something, "I
maybe Johnny Swift over here." She yanked her hand from his,
looked at Kurt and Eve staring awkwardly at each other, looked back to tom,
rolled her eyed and then, clutching her coat around her stomped away from
the group in the opposite direction of the restaurant.
The watched her figure get further and further, taking angry steps.
"Does she have any idea where she's going?" Riley asked in a whisper
to MJ.
"Nope." MJ replied, and the both gave a little shrug, knowing she'd
come back when she cooled down. Either that or when she got hungry.
