Gay Marriage. Is marriage a right, or a crime? Is devoting your life to the person you love only sacred if it is between two people with the right statistics? White skin, blonde hair, rich, straight, they only own clothes that call absolutely no attention to themselves. They are basically the people dripping with patriotism. And hey, why not? This is a great country for people like that. They aren't being discriminated against. What's not to like?
Who is the government to talk about the sanctity of marriage? America has the third highest divorce rate IN THE WORLD. Four divorces per 1,000 people. Not 1,000 couples. People. Including all the singles, and all the little kids. Oh yeah, and all the gays.
We've had presidents who cheat on their wives. We've had singers who's marriage last less than a year. Less than a week, even. But these people can do that, because it's legal. How messed up is that? Legal for some people like Elizabeth Taylor to have had eight husbands she didn't like, and illegal for people like Sir Ian McKellan to marry the one person they love?
Most people shouldn't even care about this issue at all. The only ones it affects are gay couples. Why do senators get to choose who can marry who? It isn't right. I don't think there's even a single gay senator. How would all these straight men assume they know what they're doing? They are truly desecrating marriage. Marriage isn't about being Christian and following Christian values, which some people try to associate it with. Marriage isn't about making things official. It's about love.
I would like to quote something I read in a magazine. "Love is beautiful, and should be celebrated wherever we find it." It's short and to the point. And 100 true. The sanctity of love doesn't come through who is being married. It comes through how much they care about each other.
I know that some people find gay marriage gross. I admit I also find it slightly unnerving to see two women kiss. But remember when you were a little kid? I bet most of you found all kissing and marriage gross. But you didn't want to take away people's right to it, did you?
In short, I'd like to say that the fact gay marriage is an issue is absolutely ridiculous. Why would anyone want to ban marriage? Especially a marriage that doesn't affect them. So, it goes against the bible. WHO CARES? Some people follow the bible. Those people just don't have to get married to another of the same gender.
Very soon there will be a vote about whether to add to the constitution a ban on gay rights. Our own president, George W. Bush, supports this idea. Can you imagine, a president who wants to keep the people from being married? I thought the president was supposed to help these people. He was elected to serve the country, not destroy it.

People, this is a serious problem. Everyone deserves equality, and we should give it to them.
