CRESSENT SUN
CHAPTER 1:
RAIN
Rain is a mysterious thing, it has the power to do many things, to help or destroy Earth, to quench thirst. It can shape and remold it's self, it can regenerate it's self or, give people something to complain about, too often this is the most fulfilled use...
"It rains too much around here..."
"And you complain too much" two brothers fought, one growling, on the
edge of attack while the other calmly argued. Nether letting down, they
were complete opposites physically, mentally, spiritually, in every
possible way. Kai, a brutally aggressive eighteen-year-old, dark haired,
fighter and Dako a light haired, passive spiritualist.
"SHUT UP!" Kai grabbed an apple and chucked it at his brother who
dogged the red blur only to have another fly at his head, direct on target.
"No..." they sat at tables across the room from each other in the
empty bar that was their home, well half of it anyway. It was now closed
early with only them and a sleeping husky in the corner left for the night,
after a freak fight that had broke thirty two glasses and a dozen or more
beer bottles. Dako counted the money loss, wincing at each digit; he hated
to lose money "look at how much we LOST because of YOU!"
"BECAUSE OF ME?! SO NOW I STARTED THE FIGHT?"
"NO but its your job to stop them! At least before they do any serious
damage!"
"YOU COULD HAVE HELPED, YOU PANSY!"
"Gurrrrrr."
*BARK* the husky started to bark viciously at the window
"CODA!!! STOP IT" the dog ignored its master and kept staring out at
the black, stormy night. As if in a trance Coda didn't tear away from the
window until Kai opened the door to see what was tormenting him. The dog
seized a chance to escape and bolted for the opening, he was gone in a
matter of seconds, lost in the rain only to come back dragging a soaked,
dark red object. "What the hells he got this time?" Kai watched as the
jagged object took shape, forming a head and body, his eyes widened, it was
a woman.
"HAY IT'S A GIRL!" Dako ran out and picked her up "SHES COVERED IN
BLOOD!" he yelled over the storm.
They got the girl inside; she was drenched with a mixture of rainwater
and blood, having multiple wounds with daggers still in them. After
bringing her upstairs they summoned the healer, the girl was near death, in
a coma and only nearly breathing. The healer had cleaned all the blood off
her body and given her new cloths as well as bandaging her wounds.
Kai stared down observing her as he stroked Coda, the husky who had
refused to leave the girl's side since saving her. He could now see her
face; she was beautiful with smooth, slightly tanned skin and dark, almost
black hair that was tinged with navy blue. Her strong features were covered
by bloodstained strands of hair, which Kai smoothed away uncovering her
ears, strangely they were pointed. 'She's not an elf, not light enough, yet
she seems powerful and... why does she have pointed ears? Strange...' he
frowned in thought and slightly touched the point of one ear.
The girl flinched at his touch, startled; she quickly opened her eyes
and in one lightning fast movement grabbed his wrist in a tight hold. Her
deep, navy eyes bored into his own metallic pools, tightening her grip she
dug her black nails into his skin. Kai was the first to look away as the
girl let go and asked in a soft tone whispering, "W, where... where am I?"
She struggled with the words in pain, gasping for air as if she'd been
drowning.
"You were injured, my dog saved you."
The girl stroked Coda who thankfully rubbed against her arm "Thank
you..." She rested back agents the pillow and flinched again in pain. Her
breathing calmed but still came raspy.
"Are you okay?" Kai asked worriedly.
"Yeah just hurts..." She let out a soft cough.
They stared in an awkward silence for a while as Kai thought of
something to say. Realization hit him and he finally broke the silence
"So... Umm what's your name?"
"Yeah I suppose you have a right to know..." She seemed a bit unnerved
by having to reveal something like this. A bit defensively but bravely and
proudly she spoke despite her cold stare, "it, its Rain..." She staggered
with the words.
'Different name...' Kai glanced at her curiously, as she seemed to
shudder under the thick blankets.
"And yours?"
"Kai..."
Silence settled again until Dako yelled up, "KAI GET YOUR ASS DOWN
HERE WE HAVE CUSTOMERS!"
"YEAH I KNOW! I'M COMMIN SHAUDDUP!! Sorry about that we run a bar...
We've got customers I gotta go!" She looked surprised so he continued,
"umm... Did you want anything? Food.... anything?"
"No thanks."
Kai wasn't sure; she hadn't eaten all day, after all. She looked a bit
scrawny too. "I'll come back with something later... you should rest!"
"Yeah." He left her quickly going down to the bar.
'Is he trustable? He seems... Interesting...'
'Its okay just be careful young one, remember, I'm here for you'
'I trust... no one...'
'No one?'
'Except you of course'
'Good, I am here if you need me'
"KAI!!!" Dako growled.
Kai rolled his eyes. "SHUTUP ALLREADY IM HERE! IDIOT!"
"What happened?" Dako was fending off a mob of drunks at the bar, the
usual scene with him in charge. He was just the bartender with Kai doubling
as his right hand man and bouncer.
"Our guest woke up..." Kai grabbed the money and started filling up
drinks. It was a regular packed night.
"OOOH did you find out her name?" Dako was suddenly very interested
for some reason; the twenty one year old stared in expectancy. It looked
odd for he was still working despite how attentively he was staring at his
younger brother.
"Umm... Yeah... It was..." a sudden crash in the corner of the bar cut
him off. The brothers had to crawl through the raving crowd, Kai yelling
threats and curses while Dako excused himself and was still in back.
"DAMNIT LET ME THROUGH I OWN THE F-ING BAR!!" Kai's rage built as he
neared the fight, they had the table thrown agents a wall and had glass all
over the floor. "RICKY YOU ASS! WHAT DID YOU DO THIS TIME?" Kai recognized
the bulky chestnut haired man that stood in the corner flexing his, few, if
any muscles.
"KAI!" the man looked startled as he began to recognize who had yelled
at him "I... I thought you were sick..."
"YEAH, WELL YOU THOUGH WRONG NOW GET OUT!" The man defended himself
but even though he seemed strong, he was nowhere near Kai's speed or
accuracy. The hit was hard, in Ricky's chest, toppling to the ground in
pain he coughed up blood, spiting and choking as the red liquid began to
stain his skin and cloths.
The man began to lose consciousness but was regenerated by a cold
splash in the face. As the ice melted Kai grabbed Ricky by the neck and
hauled him out the door. Even though he was 20 he still feared Kai, in
short he was a pansy who liked to show off. That was besides the fact that
Kai had taken down men almost twice his size.
The rest of the night went quickly and they soon closed, Kai washed up
while Dako, yet again grumbled about the money loss. Coda quietly descended
down the stairs and went strait for his bowl, only having two mouthfuls
before going back up.
"She must be awake," Kai said finishing the last glass. "I'll see if
she wants anything." "I'm gonna come too, I want to see how she is." Dako
left his money and followed, prodding her with questions as soon as he set
eyes on her. Rain seemed to dislike revealing any information about
herself, keeping a cold, conspicuous frown fixed to her face. Dako seemed
not to notice this so Kai helped by kicking him out (literally). She had
healed quickly, strangely almost all her wounds were healed in only one day
Kai noticed this and thought only one thing but it was 'impossible...'
