There's a crazy thought
Running its paces through my head
Whispering dreams and impossible ideas
Of what it would be like if we were wed
We could talk about anything and everything
But my mind would still be a thousand miles away
In spirit, right there beside you
A the end of every day
There's a crazy thought
That I succumb to every night
In my dreams, when I see you smile,
And I feel my heart take flight
Every once in a while
The mists of love do rise
And I forsee the end
When our friendship dies
For I am but a friend to you
And will never more become
And someday soon I know
To some other girl you'll succumb
I can see it even at this moment
As I play in the safe harbor of my dreams
I can hear the taunting laugh of that very girl
And I see how her wedding band gleams
There's no doubt in my mind
It'll never be me
But nothing compares at all
To how much I wish it could be
