A/n this is something I wrote for school/stuff, though it had to be tweaked from its original form. It comes from a part of a story I’m currently writing. Which, by the way, is still now where near done.
A True Nightmare
Gerry ran as fast as he could down the uneven streets, he didn’t know where he was going, or where the creature was, except that it was behind him, and that he was running away from it. He couldn’t help but yell, to wake up somebody, anybody, so that they could call the police or something, but it was like his voice stopped dead in the darkness around him.
He had only gotten a glimpse of it, but what he had seen of the creature he didn’t like. It was large beast of some kind as far as Gerry could tell; it hid itself within wisps of smoke-like fog or something to the like. The only thing that was distinguishable from the black smoke was the beast’s cat-like red eyes.
It was bad enough that night the sky was covered with cloud, giving their forewarning of rain. There was no light for Gerry to see by, save for a few on inside some trailers. As Gerry ran, the forest behind the trailer park stretched out and grew closer to him. Whether it held sanctuary or the jaws of death he had no clue, but as Gerry risked the chance, he realized it was most likely the latter of the two.
Gerry fell to the ground, panting hard. He could hear nothing, but he was sure that the creature wasn’t gone. He glanced warily at his surroundings, but could see nothing through the darkness. Suddenly the sound of a twig snapping. The simple sound frighten him into spinning around to face the noise; unfortunately it was only to meet the gaze of those glowing red cat-slit eyes.
He couldn’t help but release a yell of surprise and fear. He tried to get up and run away, but something held hold of his foot. In his fear he scrambled franticly to figure out what bound him as the creature silently stepped forward. It’s strides where careful and slow, but only because it knew that it had already won.
Gerry couldn’t find what held his foot; it was like some invisible force held him. The thought itself was terrifying. He could do nothing but wait until the creature finally reached him. It only made him struggle more hopelessly then before. Slowly, the creature stepped up beside him, and from where he lay, the thing looked to be at least seven feet tall. The creature’s eyes never left Gerry’s face. Suddenly, the creature shrunk, to the size and height of a human, but it still held its gaze and indistinct shape.
The creature kneeled beside him, and looked at him, seeming rather pleased. It lifted a hand and long thin claws appeared beneath the smoke. Gerry didn’t see them, so at first he didn’t know what had caused the pain that ripped through his shoulder as the creature slashed at him.
His scream pierced the night, but this only brought more amusement to the creature. It was enjoying this torture session, but it wouldn’t last much longer. Slowly, the creature bent over Gerry and sunk its fangs into his wounded shoulder, which compelled him to scream out again.
His life’s flame began to flicker, for the creature drank long and greedily. Gerry’s vision dimmed, his body struggled to stay alive, despite the lack of blood. It was hopeless. Gerry’s brain was fuzzy and as his life faded his eyes last sight was of the clouds above turning red from the rising sun.
A/n In the actual story Gerry doesn’t die, as much as I’d like him to…. Please Review!
