Whispers

Hush now child, don’t be afraid

You needn’t be, the world’s been saved

Whisper softly in her ear

Tell her why she need not fear

The world’s so big, society’s old

The summer’s warm, the winter’s cold

Through all the dark, the light will pierce

Just like a dagger through the devil’s soul

The children, they are safest here

In these halls of silver and gold

“Just let me be!” The boy shrieks in terror

As the devil stalks him forever and ever

And the angels wait for a time

At which to destroy the laws of reason and rhyme

The children are safely snug in their beds

Not toil nor trouble enter their heads

No one can touch them, they are safest of all

In this world they’ve created, this world that they call

Evil cannot touch them in those innocent worlds

For innocent minds cannot be detoured

As they seek out that light, that light which they reach

That glimmering, echoing message to you

But you’ll find it out later, for this poem is through
