Dedication: Linkin Park... one of the best rock bands out there. I love to listen to their songs when I'm writing Katlyn's Story. Also Revenge of the Wannabes by Lisi Harrison for the inspiration (cough) for one of the outfits in this chapter.
Author's Note: I am SO sorry for not updating! Today I was looking through my documents and I was like "Dewd! I need to update!" Hehe. I've been really busy with school, drama practice, church, so many things... school is now out, so yay. This is the final chapter, YAY! Okay, READ!
One afternoon on a frigid Saturday, after being cramped up in her room for several weeks, Katlyn decided she needed to do something with her life. She was 14 years old, and she had had so much go on in her life. She didn't have any friends, her brother and mother had given up hope on her that she would have friends, and they barely talked to her. Her mother was out to brunch with a friend, and her brother was at a friend's house. She walked to her dresser and opened her heavy, wooden jewelry chest with the key that was hidden in her sock drawer. She took out the fresh $20 and $100 bills and counted them. $900 from Christmas (she asked only for money, and her grandparent's were feeling very generous that year. And Katlyn never spent her money.), $350 for her birthday. She got dressed in suede camel Ralph Lauren cargo pants, a brown and turqoise argyle sweater, and a brown nubby Nanette Lepore (her grandmother had gone crazy in the Sak's Fifth Avenue sales, so she bought lots of designer clothing for Katlyn, even though Katlyn couldn't care less) blazer with a turquoise flower on the lapel for some color. She also took her favorite piece of jewelry: her diamond necklace that her father had given to her the day he had walked out on his family.
Katlyn wrote a note to her mother that said she was going shopping and would be back later. Katlyn put the money in her camel (Katlyn was obsessed with matching) purse and walked down the street, to Tiffany's. She bought a silver bracelet with the initials RMH engraved into it. She hurried off to Sak's and picked up a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans with pink Swarovski crystals on the back pockets, a red Juicy Couture velour suit, a melon/coral cashmere sweater and a gorgeous halter Calvin Klein dress. All for the bargain price of: $907.34 (not including tax). Then she headed off to Raven's house.
Raven answered the doorbell. When she saw Katlyn, she was a bit curious about the bags that Katlyn was carrying, but didn't let it show. She immediately slammed the door. The doorbell rang again. She sighed, and being the forgiving girl she is, she opened the door again.
"What?" Raven coldly asked, shivering because she reminded herself of Katlyn a couple weeks ago.
"Raven... I am so sorry. I can't explain how sorry I am. I treated you so badly, and you only wanted to help me. I was being extremely selfish and just antisocial. I want another chance, Raven. You know me. I am not like the way I was the past several weeks. I was just... numb. I was just numb. I tried to kill myself, Paul... I was just... I don't know, Raven. I was out of control. I want you to forgive me, Raven. I know you want to, deep down you do. You know who I am inside. And you know you're my best friend. You're the friend that I want to be my maid of honor, if I ever get married, I want you to be the godmother of my child, I want to be old and sit on rocking chairs and talk about how awesome our lives have been!" Both girls smiled. "And Raven, I am truly sorry, and I will never let anything come between us, ever, Raven. Because I know that me and you are meant to be BFF's. Best friends forever"
Raven stood there, staring at Katlyn's porceline face. Katlyn was crying. Raven watched as the tears fell down Katlyn's cheek. She also felt the wetness of her tears sliding down her face. She smiled slightly.
"Welcome, back, Katlyn"
The two girls hugged and cried with each other, giggling and sobbing at the same time. After a few moments, Raven invited Katlyn inside.
"I am an awesome listener. And I remember that first day that you and I met," Katlyn said as the two settled down on the white flowered couch in the shabby living room. Raven smiled.
"Me too"
"Well, I remember you telling me that you didn't have anything nice. That you always wanted some nice things, you were sick of Wal-Mart clothes. So, I decided to do something for you. I mean, after all that crap you put up with me!" The two girls giggled. "Well, open 'em! Open the small boxes last." Raven's jaw dropped when she saw the rhinestone Seven's and the red velour suit.
"Seven's? And Juicy? After going online in the cafe and drooling over their collections, I would had never thought I would own anything from there! CASHMERE? It's so... soft!" Raven cried. When she saw the Calvin Klein dress, she was shrieking.
"GORGEOUS! Is this for Spring Formals"
Katlyn nodded. "I knew you'd love it." Raven moved on to the small boxes. When she saw the signature blue boxes, she gasped.
"Tiffany's"
Katlyn nodded. "Open it"
Raven's jaw dropped again. "This is... gorgeous, Katlyn," she said softly. "It has my initials, Raven Marigold Houston. It's so pretty, Katlyn. Thank you so much. For every"
"There's one more, Raven. Right here in my pocket. It's... very special to me and I would love for you to have it." She lifted the diamond necklace out of her pockets. She handed it to Raven. Tears filled Raven's eyes. She took the necklace and looked Katlyn into her eyes. She quietly started to sob.
"Katlyn... I can't thank you enough... these things are absolutely amazing. You're such a great friend, Katlyn. I have always been poor, and you don't know how much this means to me..." she walked over to Katlyn and hugged her.
"Best friends?" Raven asked, wiping her eyes.
"Best friends," Katlyn quietly said, smiling.
"Forever"
"Forever."
Okay, that's the end! tear tear I wasn't originally planning for this to be the last chapter, but I couldn't resist! It was perfect (not the story, but the time was, haha). This took a long time to write, I'm sorry, but I am just... very slow. Haha. Thanks SO much for your support, and I hope on writing a new story sometime in the near future, so keep in touch!
