alone. she takes a deep breath
and imagines that this night, she is
beautiful; (she does that, sometimes)
her hair cascades down her back as
she raises her face to the ceiling. dark eyes
are closed, and in the darkness she can hear
her heart thrumming, and she wonders how
she could forget the difference between
heaven and hell- even though if sins
were forgiven, she'd be tempted
by that vivid red apple again.
