Leaves
I wrapped myself in leaves,
and told winter the whole story.
Last autumn.
Remember the time I cried,
You told me lame jokes just to cheer me up?
Remember the time when I was puzzled,
You stayed up all night with me just to solve the confusion?
Remember the time when I was annoyed,
You patiently listened to my complaints?
Even if you don't remember,
I still do.
I shared everything with you.
I would say,
You were my best friend,
If only you were a girl.
We were close,
Closer than bee to honey.
That's why things went wrong.
We were together during, between, and after classes.
Too close.
Like a prodigy being too smart would be teased about,
Us, too close, were being tattled about.
We thought nothing was wrong,
But something was, amiss.
Yet hold on,
The strong wind is to come.
All day long,
Murmurs flowing,
Susurrus scooping,
Whispers stirring.
Words can shatter a soul,
And they did;
25 hours a day.
We, had broken down to:
You,
Me.
Leaves may grow back next year,
Yet you,
Are forever blown away.
