(Pill-sized) Sunshine

She Says, "Get your head out of the dark days."
But sometimes the sun is just a little too bright.
She says, "I can see how shallow life is."
Even though nobody drowns in the deep end.

We all wake up earlier everyday,
While we wait for the lights to go out a bit later.
And I say, "I think I know how pointless trying is."
Because hope is turning out to be more of an addiction.

Depression is a monster only stopped by medication,
But there's a hollow promise in pill-sized sunshine.
And you say, "Why are you so mad at society?"
Because in the end we're all just pissed off monkeys.

She says, "You gotta pull yourself out of this gutter."
But we're all drifting closer to the sewer.
And she says, "I believe that life is a deep thing."
As we all sink into the meaningful days.
