Prologue: What We Are
In ancient times our ancestors, the Elders, ruled the world. They forged the sacred metals with ease, and constructed great cities with them. They even had control over Electricity. No illness could touch the Elders, and they had powerful weapons that could take the life of another with ease. Yet the Gods were angered by their rising power and disrespect, and cursed them with envy, hate, and violence. The drawing of blood was ever more frequent as time went on, and the shine of Steel was turned crimson by the blood of their own kinsmen as they built ever more powerful weapons. When the War of the Elders consumed the world, everything was nearly destroyed. The skies and seas burned, the cities of the Elders turned to dust or smoking ruins.
At the height of the War, when the world itself was threatened by the uncontrolled power of the Elders, the Gods unleashed their wrath, burning away the Elders and their blasfemous creations in a great wave of purifying fire. Only those Elders untouched by hate survived the Fires, and those were the ones approached by Takashi, King of the Gods. They swore that they would never again wield the materials of the Gods or fight their own kin, and they received His blessings. From the ruins of the cities our people moved out to the fields, and built their humble towns of wood and stone. The Gods, in turn, created the Steel Obelisk and wrote our history on it, so that we would never forget what happened to those that attempted to wield power over the Steel Gods.
We do not enter the ruins of the cities. We do not forge the Sacred Metals. We do not wield Electricity. We do not use the wonders of the Elders that are at our fingertips. Our life is difficult, but there is no hate between us, no blood has been drawn by any other than mindless beast since the War of the Elders.
We are the People. We are the Humans.
