Bella Childs was not your average teenage girl. She was everything but that. She never did anything that she was told to do, of course, because why should she have? She was one of the biggest names in the country, but only because of her father. Her father was the biggest Hollywood actor that America had ever seen. He was known to everyone in the world, and Bella knew this, so she always took it to her advantage. She was a brat, for lack of a better term. Never once had she even began to think about the needs of anyone but herself. The money that she was going to inherit from her father and her grandfather were of the greatest importance to her, and the money she already had was nothing she would ever give up, and she never let anyone forget that.
“Mr. Hanover, your granddaughter here to see you,” the secretary said as Bella arrived at her grandfather’s office building. Her grandfather was a Hollywood agent and she had never given up the fact that she thought she could be the best actress ever, and she even claimed that she could be more famous than her world renowned father.
“Send her in,” Bella’s grandfather’s voice came through an intercom on the secretary’s desk.
“You may go in now,” the secretary said.
“It’s about time,” Bella said as she grabbed her Luis Vuitton purse and walked through the office doors as if she owned the place.
“Belinda,” her grandfather said as she entered the office.
She cringed at the name. “Bella,” she corrected. “You know that I can’t stand the name Belinda. It’s so…so… old lady. Yuck,” she said as she made a face. Bella was born Belinda Carmen Childs Hanover, but chose to take her mother’s last name after she passed away, and she had always refused to use the name Belinda.
“Excuse me, Belle,” her grandfather said.
“Bella,” she corrected again. “Deaf old man,” she said quietly to herself. “If you call me anything other than Bella, I’ll just start calling you Dick, grandpa. I know you wouldn’t like that. Just like I hate Belinda.”
“Okay, Bella, calm down. It’s just a name.”
“Just a name? Just a name?”
“That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet,” he said with a smile on his face as he quoted the great William Shakespeare.
“Would you please not quote stupid old guys, grandpa, please?” she pleaded.
“Stupid old guys, hmm… you know, I honestly didn’t know that you were that daft, darling, and I mean that with the best intentions. You couldn’t tell me who said that, could you? Do you even learn anything in your school that your father pays thousands for?”
“Of course I do. You quoted William Shakespeare, and that was from Romeo and Juliet. I could quote that whole damn play. Now, could we please get to the reason that I’m here,” Bella said as she sat down in the leather chair that was positioned in front of her grandfather’s desk.
“Of course, what was that exactly?”
“Come on. You know that I want to be in a movie, or something that involves acting. I can’t just sit around and not follow in my ‘talented’ father’s footsteps. You have to put me in something.”
“Okay, right now, darling, all I can get you into is some sort of porn movie, and I would never put you in something that horrid. You are seventeen years old, and I’m sorry, but there are just too many good parts going to good actresses.”
“But I am a good actress,” Bella whined.
“I’ve never once seen you act, Bella. I don’t know what talent you have, so why should I get you into some movie when I don’t know if you’re even capable of anything.”
“Jesus, you don’t have to be such a dick about it, Dick,” she spat.
“Please don’t talk to me like that. I’m your grandfather.”
“Sorry. I just know that I can be famous like dad, and there’s no way anyone will help me.”
“Well maybe you should go to some sort of an audition so that you can show that you have talent. You might actually get a part in something, but you can’t just tell me to put you in a movie. I don’t even have the power to do that.”
“Whatever. You aren’t any help,” she said as she got up from the chair and headed towards the door.”
“Fine, Bella. Take my advice, otherwise nothing will happen.”
“Whatever,” she said as she left the office. “Jerk,” she said as the doors closed behind her. She hated the way her family treated her, but she didn’t realize that it was because she thought she was the greatest person in the world.
Bella walked out of the office building and towards the parking lot that kept her Lexus safe. She opened the car door and threw her bag on the passenger seat. She pulled out her cell phone to check for messages, and to her surprise she had none. She had expected at least one. Usually her friends wanted to hang out with her or do something. It was summer, and it was the most popular time to be partying constantly. She threw the phone alongside her purse and started her car.
She put the car in reverse and backed up, almost colliding with another car. She stopped abruptly as she heard the man honk the horn. “Jesus!” she yelled. “Nobody can fucking drive in this god damned town.” Once the car behind her had exited the parking structure, she sped away as fast as possible. She wanted to get home and see if her friends had left any messages at her house. If not, she felt that maybe some sun was a good idea. She needed to work on her tan, but she absolutely hated tanning booths, which surprised a lot of people. Just as she was hitting the highway and cutting off numerous cars, her cell phone rang. “Hello,” she said while carelessly changing lanes. “Oh, hi, dad,” she said. “Yeah, I’m on my way home now, why?”
“I’ll be home in about an hour or so give or take a few minutes, and I haven’t seen you in a while, so if you were going to head off to do something, I was wondering if you could hold off for a few hours and wait until I get home,” her father said.
“No, I don’t want to wait at home until you get there. I have plans.” She didn’t have plans yet, but she just assumed that she would.
“You can’t wait just a while for your old man to get home? Come on Bella, please.”
“Fine, well, I’ll be home in fifteen minutes, and I don’t know how long I’ll be there.”
“Okay, bye sweetheart,” he said.
“Bye dad,” she said and then hung up her phone. She made her way home and as soon as she got there, she checked her messages. “Finally,” she said as she heard her friend Jason’s voice through the speaker. She picked up the phone and called him back. They planned to meet at the exclusive V.I.P under twenty-one club that never let anyone in unless they were famous, or were related, or with someone famous. A few people got in unnoticed, but that was rare. Bella couldn’t wait. If only it weren’t one o’clock in the afternoon, she could be getting ready. She decided to take a rain-check on lying out in the sun for at least another hour and left her house once more to go get something to eat. She had checked her fridge, and there was no sushi. If there was no sushi, Bella wasn’t happy. She hopped back in her car and drove to her favorite sushi bar, ordered as quick as possible, seeing as there were some people there from her school that she considered ‘below her class’, and she took the sushi back home.
“Hey sweetie,” she heard once she got into the house.
“Dad?” she asked.
“You’re late,” he said.
“You’re early. You weren’t going to be here for another hour or so.”
“Yeah, but I didn’t have to go pick up Claire,” he told her.
“Ah, yes, the lovely Claire. God I hope you two don’t get married,” she said bluntly.
“That’s not very nice,” her father said as he followed her into the kitchen.
Bella sat down on one of the island stools and prepared to eat her raw fish and rice. “Well I’d rather speak my mind then have all of my feelings kept inside. I don’t like her, but she’s not my girlfriend, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.”
“It does matter, though. You’re more important to me than anything, and that doesn’t sit well with me that you don’t like her. Why don’t you?”
“She’s a snobby two-faced bitch, dad. Enough said.”
“God, I wasn’t expecting anything like that.”
“I can be snobbish sometimes,” she admitted. At least she knew she was like that at some points. “But at least I don’t pretend to be something I’m not. Every time she comes into this house, she’s always criticizing all the shit that was mom’s and talking about the horrible taste she had in décor, and then she’s all happy and pretends like it never happened. It pisses me off. She brought one of her friend’s here to meet you, and I seriously heard her say around the corner while you were in your room, that if I wasn’t here, you two would have been married already. I wish she would die, honestly. Any more questions?” she asked.
Her father stood there with a shocked expression on his face. “Wow,” was all he could say. “I didn’t know you disliked her that much.”
“Yeah, dislike, that’s the word to use,” she said sarcastically.
“Well, Bella, I’m sorry. Maybe I should consider the things she says and does.”
“You mean you haven’t noticed any of that stuff?” Bella was surprised. It was always so obvious. Her father nodded his head ‘no’. “Jesus. You must be pretty damn whipped.”
“I am not, I just didn’t realize. Look, Bella, how about tonight you and I have dinner together and we won’t invite Claire. It’ll be just the two of us.”
“Fine, but I have plans tonight, but don’t worry; I won’t be leaving until like nine, so we can do dinner.”
“Alright, sweetheart,” he said as he walked over and kissed Bella’s cheek. “I’m going to go take a shower.”
“Okay, if I’m not here when you get out, I’m just outside in the sun,” she said.
“Okay.”
Bella finished her sushi and went into her room to put on her black bikini and grab her tanning oil. She applied the oil and lay out on the lawn chair that was next to the pool. Tanning was her ‘escape’ of sorts. She placed on her headphones and played the music that she would never be caught dead listening too unless it was alone and on her headphones. A.F.I’s Silver & Cold played as she closed her eyes and thought of life as an actress.
A/N: Okay, so new story. It’ll get better. This was just, you know, the set-up for her life, but you can’t always have the action in the first chapter, lol. Anywho… please read and review, and tell me what you think.
