Drink the Pain Away

Conveyed illusions through the quiet gesture
That you’ve been by my side all along
Seemingly impossible to represent you
As more than just a mere reflection of nothing
Sensibility arouses suggestion
Asking why are you doing this to yourself
As wandering eyes look on in observation
To find you alone and passed out in the backyard
Why does anger create such impotence?
The anger that accumulates slow and then fast
Yet dispels gradually as each ounce is ingested
Your weary eyes feel they have not had enough
Empty bottles build up next to you
Empty and shattered; just like you
Giving you the pretense that you are full
We are no different inside; as I am empty just like you
But I try to be full and when I am it is life filling me
Not the hollow substitution of alcohol
Percolating from your lips and making your head spin
And you ask yourself, “why am I so alone tonight?”
