Some notes: Thank you to any and everyone who read or reviewed. I’m rather grateful since that’s a great motivation to write.
Warning: VERY SLASHY…. So BEWARE Homophobic people.
Alasdair admired his own reflection in the mirror. He had the typical Grecian God’s devastating looks with high cheekbones and tanned skin. He had stunning blue eyes and hair that were a mix between brown and blonde. He wasn’t quite sure what color he would call his highlighted locks but hell he didn’t care because they looked good.
He gave his watch a peek and groaned as he realized that he had only fifteen minutes left to get to the college campus.
Picking up his bag he walked through his apartment building wondering what had possessed him to say yes when his former classmate and friend had asked him to do a favor for her. It had seemed simple enough, a part time job of teaching and directing the dramatics society. It was now that the responsibility seemed to be weighing more then a ton due to his extremely hectic schedule.
“Aah, can’t be late on the first day can we?” He muttered to himself as he got out of the apartment building and beeped open his car. Alasdair immediately turned on his heater a sighed as warm air blew onto his face.
He stopped at a red light on an intersection and looked around. The walk sign for the pedestrians came on and a bunch of kids that seemed to be of college going age walked past.
“Which of these brats are you going to teach,” he muttered, fiddling with his lighter and cigarette. Suddenly his actions froze as he observed a lone figure walking in front of his car. The boy’s head was bent down and dark shaggy hair hid his face from view. Unexpectedly one the groups from behind the boy pushed him and what looked like drawing pads that had been tucked under one of his shoulders fell. The boy’s hands shivered as he pulled them out from the warm cocoon of his sweatshirt pockets to pick them up. His grey eyes were pained and his cheeks were pink. Alasdair was enthralled by the boy and he couldn’t fathom why.
As Alasdair entered the college campus, he was hounded by the Dramatics society president who was responsible for showing the new teacher around. Her name was Viola Sean and she was an attractive enough girl but her arrogance made her look rather ruffled and dog like. She pompously showed him the buildings that had been built on her grandfather’s donation.
“No wonder you’re the bloody president.” Alasdair mumbled moodily, put off by her haughtiness.
“Pardon,” The girl asked with her nose up high in the sky.
“Nothing, nothing,” He gave her his most charming smile and the girl’s face brightened visibly.
“Pays to be good actor” Alasdair thought.
As the final bell rang the girl looked glumly, “Well I’d better take you to class.”
They walked down a long narrow corridor and they entered an auditorium like classroom that was specially designed for the drama students.
Quite a few students were sitting there already while a few were ambling around the entrance of the classroom. Alasdair quickly ushered them all in. Most of the class started whispering and talking between each other as they saw their new teacher who was beaming at them most candidly.
“Well hello class, my name is Alasdair Marcius,” he noticed that quite a few of them were actually writing that down and to his dismay most of them were girls, “and I’m your teacher for this semester.”
“As most of you know, or not know I’m an actor and just like you there was once a time I was sitting on those seats wondering if I was destined to become an actor I dreamed to be. I worked hard and I’m finally at the place I am with credibility most actors dream of.
“My job is to refine your acting talents and then eventually to create a play you guys can act in.”
All heads nodded.
In midst of the nodding head a familiar head caught his eye. It was the same boy who he had admired earlier that morning. For the first the time ever Alasdair began to get nervous while talking. The boy was looking at him intently like any diligent student looking at his dutiful teacher.
-Dutiful Teacher-You idiot, you are here to teach that diligent student, not leer at him.
Alasdair gulped and began asking about Shakespeare.
“So if I asked you to choose one of his great plays then which one would you guys choose to act out.”
Viola Sean promptly replied with “The twelfth night.”
A burlier boy who looked as if he should have been playing Basketball, spoke up, “No, Macbeth.”
Viola glared at him, “No, what about, Anthony and Cleopatra.”
The boy seeing a challenge growled “the comedy of errors.”
Alasdair was impressed at both the students’ knowledge but he decided that this verbal duel should end.
“Now, now, no need to fight. I’m sure someone else could help you guys out,” He pointed toward the silent boy sitting next to a blonde girl. The boy’s grey eyes blinked and he answered with an even tone, “um.. what about Romeo and Juliet.”
Quite a few people snickered at his suggestion. The boy who had been arguing with Viola, snorted.
Alasdair gave a clap to calm the class and began speaking, “No need to start talking is there and anyway he did give a valid suggestion. Romeo and Juliet is a rather popular play and very easy to modify.”
The blonde girl sitting next to the boy spoke up, “and it’s so romantic.”
“Well yes, it is, isn’t it?” Alasdair gave a rather mischievous smile and he nearly groaned when a lot of girls gave him rather suggestive looks.
“Man.. why does the sex god of the theatre world feel like he’s being molested by a bunch of nearly out of their teens girls.”
“Well, we are going to make a play of our own, so on the first day, lets decide at least the theme of the play we’re going to write. So what will it be? Macbeth or Romeo and Juliet.”
Tentatively, after some heated debate and discussion, most of the class insisted on doing a play similar to Romeo and Juliet. Alasdair clapped his hands with glee, glad that progress was being made. Immediately the bell rang.
As the students began sauntering out of the class, Alasdair announced that in the next class he was going ask all of them for suggestions. As the last of the students filed out Alasdair remembered something; he had forgotten to ask that boy his name.
“Damn” He wanted to kick the nearest piece of furniture but decided against it. He began packing his notes when someone from behind him called his name.
“Mr. Marcius, Sir?”
For some reason he was hoping it was the boy but instead it was a girl, the one sitting next to the mystery boy.
“Hi,” she chirped loudly and took hold of his hand in a hand shake before he could even acknowledge her presence, “My name is Lalage Ambrose, but you can call me Lala.”
“Um, okay, Lala,” She smiled.
“Well I’m not only here to introduce my self but also a friend who’s a big fan of yours and has been dying to meet you.”
She looked behind her to the door and howled. “Yo, Julian, get your butt here.”
And the very same boy, who Alasdair had been gazing at the whole time he had been teaching, walked in, scowling at the girl.
“You don’t have to shout,” He told her in those soft even tones that had the actor melting.
“Umm..” he again glared at the girl who kept nudging him, “Hi, my name is Julian Graeme,” and he slowly held out his hand not really sure of what to do with it.
Alasdair firmly held onto it and Julian looked a bit flustered. “I’ll be going then,” Lalage said loudly and slowly whispered into Julian’s ear, “take your time.”
“That’s a nice name Julian, makes me think of Juliet.” Alasdair gave him his 1000 watt smile.
Julian, puzzled, leaned in closer, giving the older man an opportunity to take in his scent. “Juliet?”
He scrunched up his nose in confusion.
“You know, Romeo and Juliet.”
“Oh…Oh” Julian’s eyes’ widened as comprehension filled them. And he immediately blushed a little.
“No… No it’s not like that with me at all. No cases of love in my life returned or unrequited.” Julian replied flustered and not sure of what to make of the comment.
“I see,” and Alasdair gave him his patented mischievous smile. Julian looked at it and then at his hand which was still enveloped in the man’s hand.
The actor followed Julian’s gaze. He slowly squeezed the smaller hand.
“Your hands are so soft, they seem to break all adages about artists having ugly hands.”
“They do.” The boy gulped (“He definitely doesn’t know how to take a compliment” Alasdair though.) and then he asked, “How do you know I sketch.”
Alasdair gave him a mysterious smile. “I just know.”
He then shook his head in silent amusement “Actually, I saw your drawing pads.”
Julian gave him an arched eyebrow but his also gave a slight laugh.
“Well, I just wanted to tell you that I’m a great fan of yours.”
“Yes, I know, your friend mentioned that. But I wanted to ask how.”
“How?” Julian’s nose wrinkled again “Well, I like going to the ‘streetlight’ theatre’s play and you’re a definite regular there.”
“Oh really and may I hazard a guess that you came to see the ‘Sex, Sluts, and prostitution’ as well.”
Julian’s pale skin turned rosy. “It was a good play.”
“Are you sure you’re old enough to see it.”
“Hey, I’m eighteen and an adult so I can see whatever I like,” Julian muttered indignantly.
Suddenly Alasdair’s cell phone began ringing a catchy tune. Immediately the man picked it up and answered.
He mumbled some yeses and nos and then he ended the call with a regretful face. “I’m afraid my agent’s calling me and I have to leave, chéri, Bye.″
″Bye,″ Julian spoke.
Author’s Notes on characters:
-Alasdair Marcius is a young Actor who’s rather famous but he’s managed to find time to guide the college students because he himself was one of them a few years back. He’s almost Diva like most of the time for all of his colleagues but he decided to tone down on the divaness for it might hinder in his teaching. He has worked in all the important plays and for select charities like ‘streetlight’ theatre. He’s known to play in some raunchy roles like the one mentioned in the chapter.
Zodiac Sign: Capricorn
-Julian Graemeis a quiet person and an A grade student. Arts are his passion and he considers acting to be another form of art. He doesn’t believe in fighting and tries to keep a cool head most of the time. (His lack of aggressiveness leads to his being bullied around). He spends time either painting or reading books and doesn’t have much of a social life. He has a secret fetish for chocolate and his pet peeve is the common acceptance of the image of artists as morbid and that they wear black clothes.
Zodiac Sign: Virgo
-Lalage Ambrose is definitely not a quiet person. She talks a lot. Is possessive over Julian’s safety, shares his fetish for chocolate. She’s into Yaoi manga; Loves her hair more than anything in the world. Her father’s apparently in the army (so they move around a lot) and is on a top secret post and is scared to even mention what he does to his daughter because she can’t keep anything to herself.
Zodiac Sign: Cancer
-Viola Sean, Wyn Xavier, Rubein Rowland are annoying extras who make an occasional appearance.
So there is the first chapter. I hope you like it.
