I, Alone
July 27. 2004

Darling I wonder, does the sun still rise?
It was so long ago and now
I've lost track of time.
Does the ocean still reach for you
With its hungry waves
When you stand on our rocks alone?

I don't miss the way you smile
Or the comfort of your hand on mine.
Darling, we've gone our separate ways
And despite my love I don't miss you
I don't miss you at all,
But I do.

I stopped writing; you're not a part
Of my life anymore. You never
Answered my letters at all.
And I find that now I'm solitaire
I'm alright, I do nicely without you
Pulling me down.

Do you remember a time when we
Were fine, such a comfortable existence side
By side. Darling, when I left you
I think I cried, but I don't
Remember why; I can't remember why.

The world still turns an eye that's blind
And I imagine you're somewhere quite alive.
Do you miss not having me in your life?
Darling, do you mourn the day that
I died? Because I don't miss you
I don't miss you at all
But I do.
