Legend speaks of a war that begun between the loyalty of the Samurai
and the pride of Ninja. This was but a war for nothing more but land, the
Samurai 5, which consists of the 5 leaders of the Samurai clans, was
informed by a mysterious figure that the Ninja's were expanding onto their
land; thus leading to war. But the Ninja leader, with the name not to be
spoken among non-Ninja's, was informed with the same information but only
the Samurais were expanding.
It was pointless for both clans to converse before the war began;
ever since the clans even started they have been nothing but enemies. But
somehow that changed. Now all that is left to stop the war and to find the
strange figures that started it is a wandering hybrid and a banished
Samurai warrior. From here the Legend ends, it wasn't until now that this
legend is retold and reborn because the clans denied they even knew it,
fearing that their reputation as warriors would be ruined. But it is best
to start in the beginning of where it happened and how.
Toku continued his daily routine just like any other day: Get up,
clean the stable, meditate, go to the temple to pray for anything, also
guard the temple, train the apprentice samurais, and finally patrol the
village forest for anything suspicions.
It really was a beautiful day; it was spring and that means that the Sakura
trees were in bloom. He continued to walk with his hand resting on the hilt
of his sword, walking along the dirt road that was nearly completely
surrounded by trees that blocked out the sun; his weightless brown hair
lightly flew across his face, following the passing wind. Yes, today was a
very peaceful and yet," Maybe too peaceful" he said quietly to himself and
sighed at the particularly boring season.
Movement. In the bushes. Toku quickly took his stance with his hand
fully around the hilt of his sword. Quietly he moved toward the bushes
until he was close enough, his breathing changed into a quiet slow breath
each moment not to disturb what ever was in the bushes. Slowly he extended
his other hand to clear the leaves, Toku sighed in relief," I think I'm
becoming paranoid now". The rustle was nothing more than a small chipmunk
that ran off at the sight of the large human. Toku laughed at himself
slightly and began to walk off until something caught his eye. He nearly
froze at the sight, since that was what he was taught when in situations
like this.
A huge tiger was standing not to far away from him, staring straight
at him with his big golden eyes, growling slightly, only enough to show off
it huge teeth that could very easily rip off his arm without even trying.
They had a good distance away from eachother but it was close enough to see
the crimson blood stained on the tiger beautiful orange coat from the it's
most recent kill.
The Samurai couldn't move at all even if we wanted too. The tiger
completely captivated him for the tiger was so beautiful and yet it was so
frightening that an entire army could run away at the mere sight of it. It
wasn't until a few moments after that the tiger walked off seeing that he
wasn't interested in eating at the moment.
After the tiger was no longer in sight, Toku finally regained his
voice and thought for a moment, tigers were usually signs of something
coming and sometimes even fate but Toku never believed in such things but
somehow today was different. He shook it off and began walking again, and
then he stopped. His brain slowly re-thought of what he had just passed by,
he walked backward and looked at the bush that the small animal was hiding
in.
"Blood?" he said to himself, the bush had blood on the other side of
it. Toku walked over to the other side for a better view, it was fresh
blood. He stood up and surveyed the area, there were arrows stuck in some
trees that he passed by and signs of a small battle was imprinted in the
ground, Toku continued walk until...
"So much for a boring day."
Behind a tree, a blooded body laid. Toku ran up to the lifeless
figure, he kneeled down before the body to help out since it was a part of
the code of Bushido. It was the body of a very badly injured warrior, the
bow that the warrior still carried in his hand was nearly snapped in two
and there wasn't any arrows left. He studied the injuries first, the
warriors clothes were tore in different places with blood sweeping through,
and he took a closer look at the wounds.
The tiger he saw recently must've attacked him, the deepest wound was
on his upper back so he was completely caught off guard, but he was still
breathing so he'll be ok. But there was a problem, he dressed in black and
belts to carry various weapons, but it was the face that gave it away.
Becuase he couldn't see the face, it was cover in black material, and it
was obvious that this warrior was a Ninja. Toku sighed, it was forbidden to
aid a Ninja but the Bushido says to help anyone.
The mysterious Ninja started groaning in pain and tried to move but
failed, Toku waited until the Ninja stopped moving to reach for the mask
that covered the warrior's face. Slowly, so as not to wake him, Toku put
his hand on the back of the Ninja's head and peeled off the mask.
"Oh crud."
The black mask revealed a young girl with jet-black hair that was tied
in a high ponytail and a face full of blood; Toku felt like he was staring
at the tiger again but up close. He gulped for a moment; female ninjas were
called Kunoichi's and were almost more deadly than male Ninja assassins.
The young girl groaned in pain again, it was hard enough for her to
open her eyes. Kunoichi's were also known for being very tough and very
prideful. Finally after some time she opened her eyes but just enough for
her to see and enough for him to see her light brown eyes.
"Forget the stupid code!" he thought to himself.
"Hey don't try to move, I'm going to help you just hang on" After that she blanked out.
"Are you crazy?!" Karou yelled at her older brother, Toku had just
brought the Ninja girl into his house to fix her wounds. Toku continued to
ignore his sister and continued to wrap up the Ninja girl's arm, who was
lying on HIS bed.
"Toku are you listening to me!? If Master Kim finds her then you'll
have to commit Seppuku!" she screamed again. Toku stopped for a moment to
think. Master Kim was one of the Samurai 5, a group of Samurai leaders that
were like the government to all Samurais and the one thing they all have in
common was the fact that they all HATE Ninja's. If Master Kim found out
about this then Toku would have to commit Seppuku, that meant that if any
Samurai disobeys the Bushido then they would have to cut there own stomach
and have another Samurai cut their head off.
Karou began to scream again.
"Why is this Ninja so important to." she stopped, Toku's back was
facing her and did not notice the sudden smile that began to form on her
lips. Toku turned around to face her, it was uncommon for his sister to be
silent even for a moment, and he noticed his sister's sudden devious smile.
"What's with you?" he asked.
"You like her don't you?" she said with a taunting grin, her smile only grew bigger when Toku began blushing.
"N-no! I don't know what you're talking about!" he stuttered and turned his back toward her again. Karou laughed trying her hardest not to be heard but she couldn't. Toku glared at her, he hated it when his sister acted like this. He was about to scream at her but the young ninja warrior began moving again and finally opened her eyes.
"Hey are you ok?" Toku tried talking to her, Karou stood behind her
brother. It's not like she didn't like Ninjas or anything; she hasn't even
seen one but the stories of them are horrible! Some the Samurais always
tell how ruthless and how much they don't care who they kill. Some call
them "Great fighters with no honor" because some Samurais respected the
great power they had. It was quite a puzzling idea to see her brother
suddenly enamored by this Ninja.
The warrior groaned and finally opened her eyes that fell upon Toku
then at Karou.
"W-what?"
"Don't try to get up; you'll reopen your wounds. Are you ok?"
"Yea, I think so.those drugs you gave me really worked though" she groaned again.
Toku chuckled. The Ninja's breathing was off a bit; she was still a little drowsy from the drug they gave her to stop the pain when Toku sewed up her wounds. The Ninja put her right hand on her head from the sudden headache but she couldn't move her arm, it was broken and in a brace tied to her neck. There was silence, until Karou spoke slowly as if the Ninja was from another land.
"What is your name?" Karou said pronouncing each word clearly. The Ninja smiled, noticing the fear in Karou's eyes.
"Don't be afraid, in my condition I don't think I'll be able to even move let alone kill you. My name is Mika but where am I? And who are you two?"
Toku flashed his smile he uses to introduce himself," I am Kato Toku and this is my sister Karou, please do not be upset but you are in Luong village"
Mika took in a deep breath, re-collecting her thoughts before she spoke," I'm in one of the Samurai 5's village huh?"
"Don't worry, I won't let any body else see you" Toku said with a
smile that could calm a storm. Mika relaxed her body and let her sore body
take over and she fell asleep. Toku watched her sleep while Karou looked
over his shoulder.
"I still think she's going to kill us in our sleep."
Toku woke up to his day off of work, all night his mind was stuck on
the Mika that somehow captivated him. Since Mika was on his bed, Toku was
forced to sleep on the mat in the living room. He got up rubbing his eyes
and stretched out his sore muscles thanks to sleep uncomfortably while on
his way to check on Mika, Karou beat him there.
"She's gone" Karou said plainly, Toku felt like screaming but kept it in and just kept his surprised look on his face. But he remembered that her arm was broken and it would be extremely difficult to leave or get up even. He seriously doubted that she would leave, no matter how prideful a Ninja can get.
Mika was sitting Indian style on the hill that over looked the Luong
village; it was small but very peaceful. It wasn't much like her own, her
village was filled with warriors and continuous training, but Luong village
was filled with small huts with people working in the fields, smoke coming
from the house tops from cooking etc.
She was beginning to understand what drives these warriors to fight so
fiercely and with code as well, she looked at a samurai training his son
while the mother watched. They have something to fight for, many Ninjas
don't have families so they have nothing to lose and plus the fact that
they also have to act like they don't have a family sometimes.. More like
most of the time. A Ninja's life was but a complete secret to the world.
"How did you know I'd be up here?" she said without looking at the
Samurai that saved her life, as much as she wanted to regret it. Toku stood
next to her, looking at the village that she seemed to be entranced with.
"Some warriors think alike no matter how different they may be" his
voice had a hint of sadness, he hated the fact that he was forced to hate
people just because his leaders said so.
"Look about yesterday.." Toku sat down next to her with his usual
smile; Mika blushed slightly but refused to look at him to show her
weakness to him.
"Don't worry, it's my job. And I promise I won't tell anyone" they
both laughed. It was like Toku read her mind, in a way he did though. After
a moment of silence, he took this to his advantage to get a better look at
her.
Mika was in a Samurai white and red uniform, and her hair was down that nearly touched the ground from where she was sitting, Toku wondered how she could fight with all that hair.
"Please stop staring," she said sternly, Toku looked the other way
blushing. He quickly changed the subject.
"So.what were you doing over there any ways?" Toku looked back at
her.
"I was hunting, but I didn't know that the tiger was hunting too. Never knew I made it this far though, it's a good 5 miles to go back to my village" she paused, then spoke again," My brother's bird will come soon"
"Huh?"
"My brother's messenger bird, I can give messages to the bird and
he'll give it to my brother.and speak of the devil" she said looking
towards the sky, she stood up and waved her other arm to the sky. Toku
stood up as well and saw the massive bird flying gracefully through the
clouds.
Moment later, the large black falcon landing on her arm she extended
outward, she smiled happily to see someone she knew. The falcon was quite
large, actually it was the biggest one Toku's ever seen.
"Hello Tenchi, how are you?" she asked the bird, it cawed in reply.
The Samurai thought it strange to talk to an animal; but then again Ninjas
have their ways, as do Samurais.
Mika walked up to Toku," Hey can you help me out? Tenchi has a message
for me but I can't grab it"
Toku gulped, the last time he even tried to touch a bird this big
nearly bit off his finger. He could've sworn that "Tenchi" was glaring at
him, Mika laughed.
"Tenchi, this is my friend Toku so don't hurt him; there's are small tube on his left leg, just open it up and take out the paper"
Toku obeyed but his hands were shaking a bit just to take a simple message out, he did it quickly before the bird could snap at him.
"What's it say?"
He read it out loud:
Mika where the hell are you?
Yuske
He laughed," Loving brother you have there Mika" he joked. Mika just shook
her head; well at least she knew it was her brother.
"Ok, now on the back of that paper write out where we are" Toku took
out a small ink cartridge then looked at the bird, Mika already knew. She
took out a feather from the pocket and gave it to Toku.
"Now write out:
I'm in the Luong village, come at night near the stable
Mika
"Exactly how sure are you that he will come?" Karou asked Mika, while taking his seat on a cube of hay for the horses in the stable waiting for Mika's brother. It was only a few weeks ago when Mika received another message from her brother saying that he was coming to take her home, but the only problem was that she wasn't sure how her brother would react to see her with a Samurai. Mika was petting one of the horse's noses and looked back at Karou with a small smile.
"He's my older brother, that's how I know" Karou laughed, she knew how she felt about older brothers. Karou looked over at Toku who was pacing around the stable, he was nervous about meeting Mika's brother, she didn't blame him though, he might kill them for all they knew.
"Mika?" a voice said from the shadows, she stopped and walked in the
middle of the small clearing looking into the darkness.
"Yuske?" Mika called out, she knew it was him. The falcon flew across
the stable and landed on the door of one of the horses keeping, her brother
emerged from the shadows and into the light of the small lantern light.
Karou gulped and Toku kept his hand on his sword just in case.
Yuske was obviously older than his sister, same color of black hair in a small ponytail and same armor Mika was found in except it only covered his mouth. His eyes were like pools of black, they scanned the area until his dark eyes fell on the samurai, he looked at his sister for answers then he looked at her broken arm. He figured that the samurai must've harmed his sister and he pulled out his sword yelling.
"What did you do to my sister, samurai?!" Toku took out his sword as
well, this might get ugly. But Mika grabbed her brother's arm.
"Yuske, he saved my life you idiot! Why must you always fight first
then ask questions later?!" There was silence, Yuske was just like any
other Ninja that would question a samurai that saved a ninja or Kunoichi
which was worse. Yuske put his sword back in it's case on his back as Toku
put his away as well not taking their eyes off of each other. When it
seemed safe, Mika slapped her brother over the head.
"Ouch! Hey what was that for?"
"If you're older, then start acting like it" she yelled, Yuske rubbed his head.
Toku and Karou exchanged glances, both thinking the same thing; Yuske was not as bad as he looks when Mika was around. It took awhile but eventually Mika convinced her brother that the Samurai meant no harm and took him for a walk around the outside of the village, she explained to him about how she felt about Toku and that she wanted to stay longer. Yuske didn't like the idea but it seemed his sister just happened to be in love. But he still didn't buy it not because he didn't like samurais, but only because his father would kill her if he found out, and he wasn't kidding. His mother wouldn't have a care in the world but having the thought of," When is my grandchild coming?".
"That's why I need you Yuske, I know what dad might do to me if he found out but it's not like I can just throw away my feelings like objects. I know you did and don't even think about telling me that it didn't leave a scar in you because if I do leave then I'll have a scar to remind me; Physically and mentally" Yuske gave her a confused look, Mika touched her upper back where the tiger left a scar when she was attacked. She sat down on the grass and Yuske sat down with her. She turned around with her back facing him, he pulled her shirt slightly to take a look.
"What the? Mika.how in the world did you ever survive this?" he asked. The tiger's claws left a permanent mark on her upper left back, the claw mark was almost the size of his entire hand, he tried to touch it but even with his hand near it he could feel heat radiating from it. When he hands made contact, Mika flinched and quickly pulled her shirt back up. "What's wrong?"
"I-I don't know why, but it hurts every time some else touches it" she became silent.
"What do you mean by 'some else'?"
"Anyone besides.Toku" Yuske laughed, Mika turned around to face him again. He answered before she asked.
"Mika you know just as well as me that the tiger symbolizes many things, one of them happens to be Fate. Mika if it wasn't for that tiger, you and Toku would've never meet unless dad sent an attack on the Samurai again and if that would to happen then you know each other by hate, don't you get it? You two were suppose to meet for a purpose" Mika sat there for awhile thinking, staring into the endless night she wondered about her brother's words, but he was right. If it wasn't for that tiger she wouldn't be here with the man she suddenly fell in love with. But for what reason? She wondered.
"Even dad can't mess with fate, but you just need to believe if it really
is fate or not. But either way, dad will find out and you need to find a
way out, it isn't going to be easy" Mika smiled at her brother who smiled
back.
(FASTFORWARD)
Toku paced around the small hallway, sweating bullets. Yuske was
sitting on one of the benches waiting with his new brother-in-law, Toku
stopped and froze in the middle of the hallway when he heard Mika screaming
her head off.
"She's pretty loud." Yuske commented after she stopped.
"Yuske, can you do me a favor? A big favor?"
"Yea sure" Toku stopped and thought for a moment, trying to find the words then he spoke.
"I know what your father might do if he found out about me and Mika's
child, but what ever happens to us, please take care of our child with my
sister. If you can, teach him or her both skills" Yuske was taken back from
this, it took him awhile to recover from his shock.
"I would be honored to watch over your child, Toku but both Ninja and
Samurai?" Toku nodded.
"Why?" Before he could answer, Mika's screams filled the building that soon was followed by another set of screams. Toku and Yuske exchanged glances, next thing they both knew Karou came opening the door quietly nodding at Toku and letting him pass.
Toku came in to see Mika on a bed covered in her own sweat breathing
hard, fearing that she was hurt, he ran to her side.
"Mika are you ok?" he called out, her eyes fluttered opened to find
Toku looking at her with a face full of worry.
"It's a girl, we have a baby girl" she smiled, he smiled back and
kissed Mika on her head. Karou brought the baby wrapped in blankets and
gave the bundle to Toku, who was very nervous but thankfully the baby was
asleep.
"Just like you, right after a traumatic moment you go to sleep" Mika said as her brother came in. They all laughed, then it died down for the big question, the name.
"Well, I promised Mika that she got to name the baby if it was a
girl" Toku reminded the small group.
"So what is the future Ninja/Samurai warrior's name gonna be?" Karou
asked. Mika thought for a moment.
"I'll name her.Sashi Tora Kato"
I know what you are thinking; a Ninja and a Samurai can't be the end of a legend. You are right, this isn't the end but the beginning! Mika ended up being the Ninja leader, Li Taro's, daughter. It wasn't long until he wondered about his daughter disappearance as well as his son. Yuske, Mika, Toku, along with their child was forced to come to the Ninja temple. Taro was outraged and nearly killed little Sashi if his wife hadn't stopped him, but it didn't end there. Taro disowned Mika and declared her not of his family and banished his son. Toku was forced to return to his village with other Ninjas taking him and they told the Samurai 5 of what he did and was forced to commit seppuku, Mika tried to stop it but was killed in the process. Now their graves are separated never to be together even after death and now their souls wander the earth until they find each other. A tragic day, it was but the child is not dead like the clans claim it to be.
Yuske kept his word and took the baby away, along with Karou, from the clans and traveled to a land that wasn't covered by Ninja or Samurai blood. But now, the mysterious figures that started the war are also causing trouble; killing people, stealing and everything you can possibly think of. They purposely started the war to take the peoples mind off of other things and onto the war. It seemed all was lost and there was nothing to do but with all minds on the war, both clans forgot about the child of Ninja and Samurai blood...
