I am in darkness
As black as black can be
Isolated. all alone
No one allowed near me
Feelings locked away
The darkness closes in around me
I can't feel the pain
I find someone who can help me

A small part of me opens up
I see a little light in the distance
I need help
I want understanding
I tell him my experience
He doesn't turn away
He listens, sympathizes, comforts

I slowly begin to trust
Open myself some more
Accepting new emotion
Needing to explore
Something is said between us
I fall back in darkness
Again I'm all alone
But something different happens

He helps me out
He shows me light
He tells me of the light within me
Teaches me to face the past
I'm healing and I'm growing
Can't always see my beauty
Sometimes can't tell my worth
But know at times I'm deserving
Of all love sent to me

A part of me grows everyday
The darkness not as dark
Someone wants to help me
And values me as I am
The lows don't feel as low
I feel fear, I hide my face
He walks on eggshells
I'm still fragile at times
But I have someone to help me
Who sees the light shining bright inside
