How to make a monster

Somewhere in a demon’s workshop

Lie the instructions

To make a being

To make a nightmare

To make a monster

Following directions

Learning to make a wretch

The hellion grins in anticipation

As his creature takes form

‘Begin with a cold core

Of bittersweet rhapsodies

Slowly add razor blades and scissors

Mix in fragments of

Broken glass

Broken hearts

And twisted little souls

Blend in 15 thousand tears

And silent screams of murder victims

To make the senses sharp

Burn in hell for 16 years

And then let the monster cool awhile’

Once the demon relaxes

Waiting for his creation to arise

He drifts into a fractured sleep

And then havoc breaks free

See the monster cannot be controlled

She doesn’t have a master

See the monster’s heart is cold

That same monster is me

And I cannot be exorcised.
