You watch me walk by in my torn blue jeans and my black band tee shirt, and you assume that I'm just some punk who'll never amount to anything. You think you know me, you think that my generation is all the same. We're all slackers and lazy bums with no ambition.
You don't know me! Could you ever tell by my army green bag with the pins I've collected on it that I write poetry at three am? You say what I listen to is not music. Then what is? The songs I play on my violin? You didn't know I play the violin? Well, since I'm just a slacker.
Would you ever guess from my skull-and-crossbones shoelaces that I went on a mission trip this summer and built a house for a Mexican family? That I was there when one of my best friends received Christ? But I'm not a Christian, right? I'm just some punk that will never amount to anything.
Would you guess, as I walk around in Hot Topic, that my favorite song is by a Christian band? That I go to a youth group every Tuesday night? That I'm obsessed with Lord of the Rings and The Princess Bride?
I have no ambition, right? It's not like I make good grades in hopes of being accepted into Oxford University. I just sit around on my ambitionless butt all day and ignore my homework. I don't write and develop my story so I can be a published author before I graduate high school.
I'll never get anywhere, right?
I'm just some punk.
