AN- So, pretty unanimously option number two was voted for, which is good, because I had a more defined plotline for that one anyways, and I liked it better. So number two it is. Anyways, I’m posting the prologue and first chapter today. The rest might take a bit longer as it hasn’t already been written. So read, review, and I hope this is enjoyed as well.
“Brian!” Kayla screamed, a contraction jolting her out of her once as pleasant as it could be, seeing that she was pregnant and due in two weeks sleep.
“Wha- what?” Brian asked sitting up rather suddenly to look at his wife.
“I just had a contraction,” His eyes widened.
“Could this be it?” Brian asked immediately kicking the covers off, and looking for a pair of pants.
“I don’t know, it could just be a false alarm, but I had another one about an hour ago or something like that,” Kayla shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe it’s not time yet, we’ve got two weeks yet.”
“Yes, but maybe it is time,” Brian found a shirt and pulled it over his head, “We should go to the hospital, just to make sure.”
Kayla yawned suddenly exhausted, “No, maybe I just panicked, we shouldn’t bother,” And then she doubled over as her abdominal muscles tightened once again.
Concern marred Brian’s face, “Alright, we’re going, that’s it.”
“Where’d you put the bag?” Kayla asked, her features still twisted in pain.
“It’s right by the door,” Brian responded, helping her to her feet, and leading her down the hall. They reached the door after what felt like forever, and he picked up the bag. “I’ll go pull the car out of the garage,” He told her, gripping her arm tightly as she walked slowly down the front stairs.
She nodded once, and Brian ran towards the garage door, punching the code in with practiced speed and not even waiting for the door to go all the way up before running inside and starting the car. And then with tires squealing, Brian turned what was normally a twenty minute drive from the outer sunset to Mt. Zion hospital into a five minute one.
Kayla glared at him as they exited the car, “You know, if you kill us on the way to the hospital, there wont be a baby.”
“Yes, but if you give birth in the car, I don’t imagine it’ll go over very well either,” Brian smiled happily at her before helping her out of the car.
“My contractions are still far apart you dimwit,” She smacked him upside the head, “There’s no danger of the baby coming for another—ohhh,” She bent over against the car as another contraction took her, “For another several hours. Now can we go inside?”
Brian didn’t answer but led her inside, and idiots grin on his face.
………………………………
Blaiz was jolted out of sleep by the sharp shrill of the telephone. “Hello?” He inquired his voice barely a whisper, his head still buried in Dustin’s chest.
“She’s having the baby,” Brian’s voice screamed, “She’s having it.”
Suddenly he was wide awake, “We’ll be there in twenty minutes, tops.”
“See you then,” Brian responded, but Blaiz didn’t bother hearing the end of his sentence he’d already hung up the phone, and started shaking Dustin with an enthusiastic:
“Wake up, Kayla’s giving birth!”
Dustin
cocked one eye open, “I thought she wasn’t due for another two weeks?”
“She’s not, she’s two weeks
early,” Blaiz informed him, jumping off the bed and searching for clothing.
“Is the baby going to be ok?” Dustin inquired nervously, as Blaiz threw underwear and a pair of jeans at his face.
“Of course it is, I was born three weeks early and I was fine.”
A t-shirt hit Dustin in the head, which he ruefully pulled over his head, “I don’t know about fine…” This time it was a pillow that had been tossed off the bed due to the night’s earlier activity that smacked him in the face.
“Oh hurry you’re sexy ass up and get dressed,” Ordered Blaiz, who was already fully clothed and twirling car keys around his left index finger.
Dustin complied, and five minutes later, they were in the car, speeding up Divisadero in an attempt to make it to the hospital as quickly as possible.
…………………………..
“How’s she doing?” Dustin asked as he attacked Brian with a huge bear hug.
“She’s fine, you can come and see her, the baby has a long way to go yet,” responded Brian his eyes sparkling.
“Let’s go,” Blaiz bounced slightly, “I want to see Kayla.”
“This way,” Brian led them down the hallway and into a white walled room, lit with florescent lights.
“I hate hospitals,” Kayla announced as they walked in.
“That’s good, because you’re going to be stuck in one for the next few hours,” Blaiz responded, a smile cracking on his face.
“Blaiz!” Kayla exclaimed, “Come here and give me a hug, you too Dustin.”
Dustin complied, after all, he’d learned in the two years Brian and Kayla had been married, and the five they’d been together that it was dangerous to refuse her.
“How are you?” Dustin inquired as he was released from her embrace
“Fine, except that every few minutes my entire body goes into painful spasms,” She replied a glare on her face, “You damned men, you don’t have to go through this, you just get to watch.”
“Kayla honey, every time you have a contraction it is my hand that you are breaking,” Brian reminded her.
“Good, you should feel some pain, but I promise you, it isn’t half of what I’m feeling,” Brian decided against arguing, as he would surely lose, so he gave her a quick kiss instead.
“Grab chairs,” Kayla instructed, “Come sit, the doctors say it may be a while yet.”
And with smiles Dustin and Blaiz did as she said.
…………………..
“Every thirty seconds?” Brian asked nervously, “what does that mean?”
“That we’re taking her into the delivery room,” the nurse gave Blaiz and Dustin a look, “Only the father can come right now, I’m sorry.”
They
shrugged, “Not a problem,” Blaiz replied, “As long as Brian makes sure to come
and get us as soon as the kid’s born.”
“Of course,” Brian responded
as Kayla was rushed out of the room with Brian following close behind her, his
hand still in her death grip.
“Well this is exciting,” Blaiz commented, leaning his head against Dustin’s chest, tangling their hands together.
“Yeah it is, I can hardly sit still,” Dustin responded, motioning to his shaking legs. “I just hope everything goes well.”
“Of course it will go well,” Blaiz soothed his right hand curling around Dustin’s forearm, “Everything always works out.”
A yawn took over Dustin’s features momentarily, “Those couches in the waiting room looked awfully comfortable, what do you say we try and sleep?”
Blaiz didn’t answer but tugged his husband to his feet and pulled him outside. They curled up on the couch together and were promptly asleep.
For an hour, until they were woken by the less than feather light weight of Brian pouncing on them.
“He’s here,” He exclaimed an idiots grin lighting up his features. “And he’s absolutely gorgeous.”
“He?” Dustin asked, waking up slowly and pushing Blaiz off of him, who proceeded to land on the floor with a distinct thump.
“Yes he,” Brian responded tugging Dustin to his feet, “Well come on, come meet him!”
“What are you going to name him?” Blaiz inquired as she rushed down the hallway after the two other men.
“Kinnley, Kin for short,” Brian responded breathlessly letting them into the room.
Kayla was sitting up, her hair had become frizz, her face still red and slightly sweaty, but in her eyes, she could only see one person, the tiny human being that was nestled in her arms. A shock of dark hair and deep navy blue eyes that were different from normal baby blue, a turned up nose, and a presence strong enough to make any that came in contact with him fall in love.
Kayla looked up, “hey,” She spoke tiredly. “You wanna hold him?” She held Kinnley out to Blaiz, who with a bewildered expression took the child into his arms.
“Isn’t he gorgeous?” Brian asked excitement infiltrating his tone.
“He is,” Blaiz admitted in complete awe at the tiny being in his arms.
“Dustin, you want a turn?” Brian asked.
Dustin nodded and took the child out of Blaiz’s arms, “Nice work Brian, you created something cute.”
“Oh shut
it,” Brian glared, but it was easy to see he was less than angry. “Anyways,
what we wanted to tell you two, since neither Kayla or I have any siblings, we
want you two to play the role of ‘uncles,’ legally you’ll be put down as the
godparents, and if anything should happen to us-“
“Brian he was just born, don’t
start with that,” Dustin cut him off, passing Brian back his son.
“We just want it clear from day one,” If anything happens to us, you are the parents, and until then, you are uncles, god-parents, whatever. Kinnley will know you as his uncles.”
Blaiz
smiled, “You alright with that Dustin, ‘cause I am.”
“That sounds fantastic,”
Dustin responded, putting an arm around Blaiz and smiling down at his new
nephew.
