"What is it now Amber?" I asked. She smiled.
"You are my best friend, you know that?" she asked in her childish voice. She was only 10 years old, and she was always getting on my nerves. But it was times like those that she really hit home for me. I nodded.
"Go to sleep Amm" she didn't need telling twice, she rolled over and within minutes I heard her snoring. I stood up. I walked over to my bedroom window. Standing below it was a guy in a leather jacket. He looked up.
"C'mon Jess!" he said, as quiteley as possible. He was smiling from ear to ear, and I could see our other friends in the car.
"I'm trying" I answered. I grabbed my bookbag off of the floor and said "Catch" he caught it easily. The window was somewhere around 15 feet in the air and I was very nervous to climb out. I stuck one leg out cautiously, then the next. My boot heel got caught in the window, and I had to pull my foot back in and try again. Finally I managed to get out on the ledge. I tried not to look down as I walked furthur down the roof. The height made me naseuated with fear. Finally I made it to the tree. I looked down at that point and saw that Max was standing below me. I grabbed ahold of a particularly thick branch and began climbing down.
"Thats it Jess, slow and easy" he said to me. I nodded, and screwed my face up in concentration. Another voice entered my train of thought.
"Hurry Jess, your parents will wake up!" It was another one of our friends, Chase. Finally I managed to shimmy down the tree. Max grinned at me.
"Nice" he said. I smiled nervously.
"Hurry, lets go" I told him. He grinned and led me to the car. Two other guys were sitting inside. Adam and David. You are probably wondering right now, who are these people, and what are they doing. Simple answers await your question.
My name is Jessica Lenoire. I live in Beaufort, North Carolina. I
have two sisters, Amber and Liz. I have three brothers Ryan, Milo, and
Cedric. I also have one mother, Susan, and one father, Mark. At my house it
is pretty hectic, and it should be with six children. You probably think
I'm running away because I hate my life. Not true. But, I am running away.
I'm running away because I'm TIRED of my perfect life.
The people I'm running away with (Max, Adam, Chase, and David) are my
best friends in the whole world. Max, my next door neighbor. Adam, became
friends with me when we were partners in a Science project in the 3rd
grade. Chase, my mom's nephew, and David, Max's brother.
You may be thinking "Your parents are easily going to find you" but
you are wrong. My parents are so busy that they probably wouldn't notice I
was gone for another 2 days at least. And, I'm not saying this in a bad
way. I love my parents. They are the nicest people in the world, and they
work hard to make lots of money. But lets face it, when you work hard you
aren't home a lot. Plus we have so many kids in the house you don't miss
one! Max and David were running away because I'd never known either one of
them to turn down a challenge before. Adam was running away because, well,
because we begged him. Chase was going because he hated his mother with a
passion. Anyway, more about me. I am 17 years old, I'm a senior in the
local high school. I have brown hair, and green eyes. I'm interested in
becoming a writer someday, or maybe producing rock videos would be a more
appropriate job for me. But, we are running out of time just talking.
"So, Jessie, aren't you afraid one of us lunatics will take advantage
of you or something?" David asked me jokingly. He put his arm over my
shoulder. I laughed.
"Good luck. You'd be dead before I let you try anything" I said winking at Adam who was sitting on the other side of me. David grinned.
"Thats the spirit" Chase joked from the front seat.
"Maybe we should have let her sit in the front" Max said, still focusing on the road. Max was very serious while driving.
"Max, I was kidding, we're not going to like, attack her in the back seat!" David said laughing. Max didn't smile.
"I know. I was just thinking that maybe she'd be more comfortable in the front" he answered his younger brother.
"Or maybe, you just want to have her up there so YOU will be more comfortable" Adam said, speaking for the first time. Max blushed and David giggled. David was notorious for his giggle. I had never known a guy who giggled before I met David. Max was 19, the oldest of the group. Chase was 18, Adam was 17, and David was 17 also.
"No! I get carsick!" Chase said in complaint. I laughed.
"Don't worry, I'm perfectly comfortable around these two perves. I'm used to them." I said jokingly while patting both Adam and David on their legs. Adam winked at me, David giggled, Max blushed again, and Chase turned around and grinned. I could already tell it was going to be the type of experience you tell your grandchildren about. But I could never guess how exciting it would actually be.
