Domesticated - Oban's Story
Summery: One dog demon child finds the truth behind her master and is
forever trapped to do his bidding. As a proud woman she keeps her duty to
protect the pack, but also wants to protect so much more.
-----
It was a cool crisp night in a canyon and the clear sky shown the stars so
clearly, and the full yellow moon was dazzling to its watchers. Barking was
heard from the excited puppies and everyone could feel the full energy of
the moon. One small dog demon especially wanted to howl her head off as she
climbed the rock walls of the canyon quickly and nimbly. She was only a
puppy looking only the human age of 5 would make you think she was weak but
on the contrary, she was one of the strongest females in the pack. Her
Short red hair shown in the moon light and her multi colored eyes that were
yellow and orange shined with determination and adventure seeking fun as
she climbed, her claws, tiny yet sharp, digging into the rock and pulling
her closer to her goal. the top.
The girl's red dog ears on the top of her head twitched as she heard
someone call her name and she stopped climbing to look down, but had to
move her fluffy dog tail out of the way to see her best friend still half
way down the canyon wall when she was nearly there
"Obaaan!" The other inu yelled "Come on! No pup has been to talk to the
moon in ages" Oban only flashed a grin at the other girl and resumed
climbing. The other girl pup huffed and followed the red head. She was a
little older, looking 6 with short brown hair and brown eyes. She also had
brown dog ears and a tail like Oban. She never understood the red head's
adventurous ideas
Oban finally made it to the top of the canyon to the soft green grass on
flat ground and she laughed before diving and rolling around in the grass,
just to get the feel of it and then crawled on all fours to look down at
her friend
"You're too slow Hama" the red head said and reached down to grab Hama's
out stretched hand and pulled her up so she too could roll around in the
grass to rest. Oban looked up at the full moon that was so close to the
earth she thought she could reach out and touch it if she could only find
the horizon. It was like watching the sun set over the ocean, only the full
moon was rising on the flat ground that made that untouchable horizon. Oban
took a deep breath of the warm summer air that smelled heavily of green
leaves and rain, her favorite time of the year. She giggled then and danced
around, showing off her red kimono with yellow and red fish "I'm going to
talk to the moon!"
"Oban! Shhhh!" Hama hushed "If you parade like that the master shall hear
and come home"
"But you have to be loud for the moon to hear you" Oban said innocently,
continuing to dance around Hama "You know the moon has bad hearing and bad
site, so you dress in bright colors and sing real loud to get his
attention" Hama groaned and looked at her own yellow kimono that their
parents dressed them in every summer's full moon. The adult inus would
dress themselves and the children in formal wear for this holiday to show
respect, though in puppy tales the moon could hear and watch over the pups
that serenaded it, or at least that was what the nursery inu elder told the
tales at nap time
Oban pranced around in the grass, dancing and doing cart wheels and Hama
only watched as her friend began to sing loudly, yet not badly
"Oh moon, oh moon," Oban sang "Tell me a tale, about two inus, tell me
about their travels and adventures. Show me oh moon, their freedom, show me
oh moon the love that they shared, beneath your glorious rays, to make the
first pack of my kind that roamed the land. Strong and brave, they were
like no other, in this world." She slowed down the last few verses "Listen
oh moon, as I sing to you, listen oh moon as I sing my heart. to you." She
finally ended the song and she let out a loud proud howl to the moon, her
arms out stretched to sing the song of her people and set her soul free.
Hama also joined in, inspired by the song and for she had also itched to
howl her song to the moon which they worshiped
In the canyon other pups, too young to know not to, howled with Oban and
some rogue teenagers hopped upon boulders to join in. The adults tried to
stop the little ones but it was contagious to the whole pack and soon the
canyon was filled with soul lifting howls, freeing them to dance in the
moon's rays
Oban let herself fall in the grass and rest. Hama yawned herself and curled
up in the soft grass, ready to go to sleep, but they both heard Oban's name
being called by someone and the red head sat up. She crawled to the edge of
the canyon wall and looked down. She could barely see him, but her baby
brother waving up at her and smiling widely. He was sitting on the ground
since he still walked on all fours, and all pups did for the first couple
of years or life
Hama sighed in an annoyed tone "Is that your little bro again?"
"Yep" Oban said and started to climb down the canyon wall "Be right back"
Hama got on to her own four legs and crawled after her friend to the edge
to watch her climb down
"Just leave him there, your mom'll get him" the brunet said, even though
she knew it was in vein. Oban and her brother were nearly inseparable
"No, he just wants to play" Oban said and hopped down the canyon wall
quickly and landed on her feet nimbly, making her baby brother laugh and
clap his tiny hands together. The little puppy inu was only about 16 months
old with blue curls of hair and big blue, almost black eyes that could make
you want to give him a cookie on the spot and wrapped in baby robes of
ocean green. Oban smiled and picked him up
"Hey Reisui, ya wanna talk to the moon too?" She asked and the blue haired
boy nodded. Oban hugged him to her in one arm and climbed to the top of the
canyon again to return to Hama, who groaned
"You could have just brought him home" she complained but Oban shook her
head
"No way, I'm lucky to even have a little brother, the master was hesitant
to let my mommy and daddy" the red head said
"Yeah well I have 5 elder siblings" Hama said "And 4 younger ones, they're
a pain"
"Well I'm lucky to have Reisui" Oban said proudly as she sat cross legged
so Reisui could be cradled in her lap and he pulled at the long grass with
his tiny hands. He was fascinated by it as all babies were
The two girls then heard someone climbing the canyon and a green haired
boy, about 6 made it over the edge and brown eyes focused on Oban
immediately. His eyes glinted mischievously and he pounced her. Oban had
already given Reisui to Hama for safety and turned around to meet his
pounce. They tumbled over one another on the grass many times before Oban
stopped abruptly on her back and used the momentum of their rolling to sent
the boy inu off her to the ground, then when he was off guard pounced him
and pinned his body belly down into the dirt
"Got you Kumo!" She cheered and Kumo spat out dirt before turning his head
as far as he could to scowl at her. He knocked her off him and stood up,
his dark blue boy kimono smudged with dirt. Oban began to dance around from
her victory
"You cheeted!" He accused and Oban was in his face, even though her was
like 3 inches taller for being older
"Oh yeah? Do we need to count the 387 days I wiped your sorry tail" She
mocked. Kumo was angry
"You cheated!"
"I can't cheat 387 times and still whipped you"
"Shut up!"
"Make me!"
"Bitch!"
"Jerk!"
"Flea!"
"Puppy!"
"Butt sniffer!"
"Neko hairball!"
"I am not! You are!"
Oh, nice come back slobber boy!
"I DO NOT SLOBBER!"
"You do at nap time!"
This went on for a bit and another inu climbed up onto the canyon top. He
sat next to Hama and watched the fight; he had short dark blue hair and
brown eyes like his brother who was arguing with Oban. He was about 7 and
wore a similar kimono to his brother's
"They're at it again?" he asked and Hama nodded
"Yeah, Hakken" she said a little boredly and Reisui yawned like this
happened often, which it did, but suddenly Kumo tackled Oban and they both
went over bored off the canyon wall. Hama only looked at Hakken and he
looked back
"2 cookies says Oban pins him" she betted
"No way" Hakken said "4 cookies Kumo does"
"Deal" Hama said and they scrambled to the edge just to see Oban turn them
around in midair and pinned Kumo's back into the, luckily, soft ground,
giving Oban a nice squishy landing. Hama jumped up and hugged Reisui,
cheering "I win!" Hakken gave her a mean look and stuck his tongue out at
her.
Oban giggled as she laid on Kumo, who was very sore and in too much pain to
move at the moment.
"Ya know, maybe you should stop trying to beat me" Oban said as she fiddled
with the hem of his kimono "One day you're going to get seriously hurt"
Kumo grumbled about not letting a little bitch over power him, but that was
all he could do for the moment. Oban sighed and thought what all little
girls thought 'Boys are soooo stupid' She was about to get up when she was
suddenly hauled up by an older inu woman with red hair and yellow eyes by
the back of her kimono
"Oban" she scowled in a tired tone "What Have I told you about fighting?"
"Um." Oban thought, though not seriously "Don't kill Kumo?" the woman
sighed in aspiration
"Oban.."
"I know, I know." the little red head said "'Don't'" she sighed sadly and
looked at the other red head "Sorry mother" Her mother smiled and set her
on her feet before going to see if Kumo was alright
"Oh he'll be fine" Oban said dismissively "He's got a hard head" Her mom
didn't like her comment too well and gave her a look that said 'You're
pushing it' Oban promptly kept the rest of her wise cracks to herself
"Where is your brother?" Oban's mom asked and Oban looked up at the cliff
where Hama and Hakken were slowly climbing down the cliff, Hama, safely
carrying her little brother
"He's coming" she said and went to meet Hama at the cliff and was given
Reisui by Hama. Kumo was back on his feet but sore and Hakken hurried to
help his brother
"Oi Kumo" he said "You can't just pounce a bitch, they're tricky"
"Like I don't already know that" Kumo said angrily and glared at Oban who
grinned superiority back at him
"Now then" Oban's mother said in a disciplining tone "Oban, you know it's
strictly forbidden to howl at the moon"
"But. But." the little inu said innocently like she was being wrongly
charged for a crime she did not commit
"No but's young female" her mother said sternly "That is the 3rd time, the
'3rd' time you've disobeyed the rules AND have beaten up poor Kumo"
"He was looking for it" Oban grumbled and got another glare from Kumo for
that
"You got the whole pack howling" Her mother continued
"But wasn't it fun?" Oban asked and her mother couldn't deny it hadn't
been, but that didn't mean she had to give her daughter that much appraisal
for doing something wrong
"Oban, the master will be furious if you break another rule" Oban's mother
said "'Try' to behave"
"Yes mother" Oban said in a bored sigh. Her mother ignored her daughter's
tone and took her son before going back to the den. Oban sighed in a bored
tone before skipping over to Kumo and poking him in the nose with one claw
before giggling
"Come around if you want your tail kicked again" she said and skipped off
after her mother. Kumo only glared at her retreating form
"Bitch" he mumbled and his brother helped him toward home
