The Cats Meow
The night was calm and silent as a swift and soundless, shadowed figure made there way unobserved through the dark night sky. The stars and moon dared not to shine tonight as Chaos began to make it’s presence known to everyone throughout the city. The news covers it up, being paid to keep their mouths shut by higher operatives while only a few dare and are able to fight the vast legions of Chaos. The night turns darker still as the figure soon disappears from view.
“Good morning!” the cheery English teacher yelled as she watched all of her lively students come marching in. She smiled happily at her daydream while in reality most were late and were not marching in but slowly dragging there feet as they all soon found there seats. The teacher soon sighed as she looked around at her students and then put her cheery smile back on and started the lesson.
A couple of minutes after the lesson was complete a young girl with golden like skin and long brown hair leaned back in her chair, her work being complete. The teacher looked back at her and smiled before doing some work of her own as the girls emerald green and gold eyes went down to a piece of blank white paper as she began to doodle on it. This kept her occupied for awhile when suddenly the door to the classroom opened and in walked a tall and skinny neko girl.
The girl’s lilac, cat like eyes looked around the room at everyone emotionlessly before she smiled softly. “I’m.. Lily Derosa,” the girl said as she turned her attention to the teachers desk and slowly walked over to it. The teacher smiled sweetly and welcomed her before directing her towards a seat at the back. Lily nodded and made her way over to her seat before slowly sitting down and sighing softly.
“Fell, could you show Lily what we’re doing?” the teacher asked when the girl with the long braided hair nodded. “Yes, Mrs. Corona,” she said before turning to the new girl and smiling.
“So, how’re you?” she asked nicely when the girl shrugged. “I’m ok,” she said as her dark grey cat ears began to perk up slightly. Her tail rose a little as a little bell became visible, it ringing softly.
Fell looked at the silver bell curiously and then at the cat girl. “Your bell didn’t ring before while you were walking,” she said when the girl smiled softly and tried quickly to change the subject.
“So, what work do I have to do?” she asked when Fell grinned and nodded, quickly explaining the work and watching her until it was finished.
“Now about that bell,” she said when the bell rang.
“Oh, sorry, I’ve got to go,” she said as she quickly grabbed her books and ran out of the room.
Fell grinned as she watched the girl Lily run out of the room.
The next class was gym and Lily was shocked to find that Fell was in each one of her new classes. English, gym, math and science. She seemed to be stuck with the querying young girl. There gym teacher was a large a beastly woman named Mrs. Dublette. Her name sounded very feminine and French but this woman clearly was not. The two girls didn’t say much to one another as they started off with some push ups and then with some sits ups and Lily looked around at the co-ed class.
“So, how’re you enjoying Mrs. Dublette’s class?” Fell asked when Lily sighed and shrugged slightly at the top of a climbing rope.
“It could be worse,” she responded when she noticed a guy that just seemed to hang around a lot. Fell noticed her gazing down at the guy when she grinned.
“He’s one of the principals aids, Draco,” she said when Lily nodded, the large metal cylinders in her hair clanging together slightly as she waited until the teacher said it was time to come down.
Lily watched the short haired guy curiously until his gaze met hers. The way he started at her made her feel kind of uneasy and that made her wonder who he was when she was brought back to reality by the sound of the teachers whistle. Not too long after they’d all gotten down had gym class ended.
Lily couldn’t find the odd girl Fell anywhere so she decided to go eat lunch outside. She went and sat underneath a tree and began to eat her sandwich when she sensed something above her. She didn’t move and just let it sit up there as she awaited the things actions. She flicked her tail back and forth a bit, her bell jingling softly when she saw Fell coming towards her. She didn’t know what to do so she just sat there as the long haired girl stood over her.
“So, about that bell,” she said as she tried to bring up her question from before when something came out of the tree. Lily gasped and got up quickly to only find that it was the guy from gym class, Draco. His short black hair and tall, semi- built figure seemed to be something to behold, judging from the way Fell looked him over as Lily finished off the rest of her sandwich.
“So what are you ladies up to?” he asked when Fell smiled innocently.
“Nothing, sir,” she said as she batted her eyelashes while Lily shrugged.
“Nothin’ much. Why?” she asked as she looked his expression over curiously.
“Nothing really, just checking out the scenery,” he joked when the bell rang.
“Yeah.. The scenery,” Lily said sarcastically before heading back inside. She turned around, wondering why Fell wasn’t talking along behind her when she saw her flirting with the teachers aid. She sighed and shook her head and went towards art class. The rest of the day was spent on Fell’s fantasies of the 19 year old aid until it was finally time to go home. Lily didn’t see Fell before she left the school so she figured that she was probably flirting with that guy again.
With a sigh Lily exited the school and began to head home. She was soon lost in thought about all the things that she had spoken to the principal about when she caught her foot on one of the sideways rough edge and fell over onto the ground.
“Oww..” she whimpered softly as she began to pick herself up off of the ground when she saw Fell in a coffee shop across the road. Being a cat her curiosity got the better of her as she soon found herself crossing the road and then entering the store.
“Hey!” Fell said cheerfully from behind a dark brown counter as she watched Lily come in.
“This is the place I work,” she said as she watched Lily look around the shop curiously. “You’re lucky, it’s time for me to take a break. Would you like anything? I’ll buy,” she said when Lily smiled.
“I’ll just have some juice.. I don’t really like coffee,” she said when Fell nodded and grabbed them both a cup. They had soon sat down near the back of the store and began to sip there drinks. Lily, loving juice, had drank it quickly and just sat there and watched Fell as she slowly made her way through the light brown, strong smelling brew.
“So where you came from.. Was there someone special?” Fell asked when Lily looked down at the cheaply carpeted ground.
“Maybe,” she said before she noticed the sun’s sudden decline. “But it doesn’t matter,” she said as she slowly got up and out of her seat.
“What do you mean it doesn’t matter!?” Fell said as she got up and followed after her.
“It doesn’t matter,” she said as she disappeared out the door. Fell’s hours being done she quickly threw off her uniform and ran out after her to see that she wasn’t anywhere on the street. She had a weird feeling and decided to look up when she saw Lily make her way back towards Valentines street by roof top. Fell grinned and muttered a small spell and began to follow her.
Lily was soon home as the sun had almost disappeared behind the large towering buildings. She quickly discarded her back onto the couch and pressed a small button which moved a wall and revealed a thick and heavy steel door. Lily grinned as she grabbed a hold of the long cylindrical hand and pulled it open with ease before she entered and closed it only slightly. She ran down the long metallic winding stairs until she reached a room where her costume and some equipment were stored. She quickly discarded her clothes and began to get redressed.
Meanwhile Fell had come to the girls home and entered after knocking a few times. She saw the metal door slightly opened and decided to wait until her new partner would emerge.
Lily was soon dressed and out the large steel door when she heard someone behind her. She quickly went for her dagger when a hand was placed on hers and a pair of lips came up to her ear and whispered seductively. “I like your costume,” Lily’s heart stopped for a second before she turned around and was face to face with Fell. “What the..” she said quietly but angrily as Fell’s face seemed to come closer.
“I knew when your bell didn’t ring this morning,” she said quietly before slowly backing away. Lily gulped slightly before she shook away the blush on her face.
“Who the hell are you!?” Lily asked when Fell grinned slightly.
“I’m your new partner,” she replied when Lily noticed that she was in costume as well.
“Well then lets go,” Lily said as she marched towards the door. Fell followed and grinned as they soon took off towards the city.
The night seemed pretty quiet, especially since they didn’t talk too much when Lily stopped on the ledge of a building. Fell stopped there as well as Lily looked around the night sky and then took off again. Fell watched her partner soar through the sky gracefully when Lily quickly whipped around and was surrounded by dark shadows. Lily drew out her samurai daggers and began to make quick work of them when soon Fell was surrounded too.
Fell decided to battle of the ground while Lily remained airborne. Fell noticed that the shadows didn’t seem to be much of match for Lily so she decided to let her fight on her own. Fell quickly morphed her arm into a sharp blade as she cut through the shadows until her body started to hurt. Lily continued her battle up above and was soon finished with hers when she looked down to see that Fell was in some sort of pain.
Fell placed her blade like arm on the ground to help hold her up when a shadow came charging towards her. She gasped and closed her eyes, awaiting the sharp pain of the spear that it carried when for some reason it didn’t come. She slowly opened her eyes to see Lily standing in front of her. “Lily,” she said softly as she watched her partner battle the spear wielder. Lily drew out a samurai dagger and sliced it in half before kicking the shadows head in. She drew out the other as they began to close in. Lily laughed softly before running through the crowds and slicing them into pieces.
“Damn things,” she said before she dusted herself off. Fell watched her in amazement when the pain began to rise once again. Lily came to her side and sighed softy. “Are you ok?” she asked as her bell rang.
Fell gasped as she looked at the bell on Lily’s tail. “Your bell.. it didn’t,” she began when Lily grinned.
“I hope they’ll e tougher competition in the future,” she said before she kneeled down.
“Come on and lets go,” she said as she signaled Fell to climb onto her back.
“No, I couldn’t.. I,” she said when Lily stood up and lifted her up in her arms.
“Always got to do things the difficult way,” she said before she took off and head back towards there houses.
