Sakhmet
I know all your secrets,
I know all your flaws
For I am the lioness
I’ve got you in my jaws
Tell me all your secrets
Tell me all your flaws
For I am the lioness
I’ve snagged you with my claws
I’ve become the predator
You’ve become the prey
So you’re going to listen
To all the words I say
Because I know all your secrets
And I know all your flaws
For I am the lioness
Your life rests in my paws
You can’t make me turn away
You’ll never make me cry
All the tears I shed for you
Are already dry
And If I ever cry again
It won’t be for you
For I am the lioness
And I don’t take orders from you.
This poem is named after the Egyptian Goddess Sakhmet, the fierce wild cat goddess. I wrote it as a song, a taunting, empowering song. That whole ‘na na na, na na naaa!’ taunt everyone has heard n many different versus rang into my head the other day, and odd words fired back at it. I wrote this as an empowerment, to make a statement some people will understand, some won’t. But I’m writing this for the people who will. If you like this poem, please visit my website to view more.
