"Hey wait for me!" Kaiyo yelled, as he ran after his friends. He was
an average looking 17 year old. He had brownish hair that never seemed to
do what it was supposed to. They never seemed to wait for him, they had
been classmates since the fourth grade when Kaiyo moved to their town. They
were now in high school and still friends. "How come you guys never wait?"
he asked. His friend Sakura turned to him.
"It's not that we're going fast, it's just your so darn slow," she
said jokingly. She laughed to herself. Sakura was the same age as Kaiyo,
she had moved to the town a few years before him. They only lived a few
houses away, so they became friends quickly. She had shoulder-length black
hair and bright green eyes. She always seemed to be happy and smiling.
"Yeah, it's your own fault," Kenske added. Kenske was a year older
that the other two, and had lived in the same place all his life. He was a
very warm heard guy, he was one of the few people who welcomed Kaiyo when
he first arrived. "If you went a little after, then you wouldn't have to
run," he said.
"Easy for you to say, you could probably run five miles in the time
it takes me to just catch up with you," Kaiyo said, catching his breath as
he finally caught up with them. It was true also, Kenske had been on the
school track team for at least two years and he was pretty good. "Anyway,
you guys wanna do something this weekend, we could go and see a movie or
something? School's almost out and that means we finally get time to have
fun," he said.
"Sure, how about this sunday?" Sakura asked.
"Nah, I can't I have some stuff to do sunday," Kenske answered.
"Stuff? What do you mean stuff?" she asked curiously.
"He means that his family drags him to church every Sunday," Kaiyo
said.
"Oh yeah, I remember you used to go all the time when we were kids,
but I didn't know that you still went," Sakura said.
"Yup, I'm used to it by now. I'd probably end up going even if my
parents didn't drag me along with them," he answered smiling.
"Anyway, since we can't go Sunday, how about tomorrow?" Sakura asked.
"Fine with me," Kaiyo and Kenske said in unison.
"Then it's settled!" Sakura said happily, "See ya then," she said,
running off toward her house.
"See ya!" the other two yelled.
"Guess this means this is my stop," Kaiyo said, he pointed to his
house, "I'll see you tomorrow man, bye!" he said, running off to his house.
Kaiyo walked up the familiar steps towards his house, wiping his feet at
the door and walking in. Kaiyo lived alone, his parents had passed away
when he was six and he was sent to a foster home. He stayed there until he
was old enough to move out. He ended up with the house that he and his
parents had shared. It was a good sized house, far too big for someone who
lived alone, but Kaiyo still kept it. He walked into his room, tossing his
backpack onto the ground nearby and crashed into his bed. "Good night," he
said to himself, flipping the light switch off.
They next day Kaiyo managed to find his friends and the went off to
the movies. Nothing looked particularly good so they decided to go and see
the worst movie possible and see how funny it could be. After the movie, it
was already getting dark, they decided that it might be a good idea to go
to one of their houses, especially with certain rumors that had been
circulating. They were still a few blocks away from Kenske's house when the
sun finally fell behind the horizon. The shadows from the tall buildings
seemed to cover the entire town.
"Spooky isn't it?" Kenske said mockingly.
"What?" Kaiyo asked.
"How quickly it gets dark in this city," he responded.
"It's never been any different, I guess that's just how it is here,"
Sakura said.
"I know, but with the rumors going around, it's kinda freaky," Kenske
said.
"What rumors?" Sakura asked.
"You mean you haven't head?" he continued.
"No..." Kaiyo and Sakura said together.
"Well there's been a lot of talk about..." he trailed off.
"About what?" Kaiyo asked.
"About Demons," Kenske said
"Oh, stop kidding around," Kaiyo said.
"I'm not kidding," he said, "don't you watch the news? There's been
like twelve attacks recently." Kaiyo and Sakura looked at each other in
disbelief.
"But I thought that all the demons disappeared, there was some big
government operation and they supposedly got rid of them," Kaiyo said.
"Well. it looks like they missed some," Kenske continued.
"Can we not talk about this?" Sakura asked.
"Yeah, that might be a good idea," Kaiyo said.
"What's the matter? Did I scare you?" Kenske asked jokingly.
"Shut up," Sakura yelled, pushing Kenske to the side.
"Yeah man, your going to far with this," Kaiyo said.
"all right... WHAT'S THAT OVER THERE!!!!" Kenske yelled, pointing at
a shadow. Sakura and Kaiyo both jumped back, running to the wall. "Oh, it's
a mailbox," Kenske said mockingly.
"Dumbass!" Kaiyo yelled.
"Jerk!" Sakura followed, "Don't ever do that again!" she said.
"all right, all right," Kenske's face suddenly changed, his smile
faded and he looked serious, "what was that?" he asked.
"I said quit that!" Sakura said.
"Um Sakura..." Kaiyo said, "I don't think he's kidding this time."
Kaiyo pointed to a nearby alley. The garbage cans all toppled when he
pointed and something seemed to dash out of their vision.
"Ahh! What was that?!" Sakura yelled.
"I don't know, but I'm gonna find out," Kenske said, "You guys with
me?"
"I guess so," Sakura and Kaiyo said unenthusiastically. They walked
slowly towards the alley. Kaiyo pulled out a small key chain flashlight.
"I'm not sure how much help that'll be Kaiyo" Sakura said.
"Hey, it's more light that we have," he said.
"Shhhhh!" Kenske said, creeping forward.
"There's something on the ground here guys," Sakura said.
"It's probably just water," Kenske said, "It must've rained earlier."
They came to the next street, a streetlight nearby illuminated most of the
alley. There was a pile of boxes by the back door of one of the buildings.
Something dashed across the alleyway, into the pile. "There it is!" Kenske
said.
"What is it?" Sakura asked.
"Probably just a bum, it looked human to me," Kaiyo said.
"I don't think so, something seems off," Kenske said. He took a few
steps forward, walking into a puddle. "What is this?" he asked himself. He
could hardly contain his yells when he realized what he was standing in.
There was a trail of blood along the ground. Kenske turned back to Kaiyo
and Sakura, motioning for them to look down. Kaiyo literally had to put his
hand over Sakura's mouth, to keep her from calling out.
"We don't want it to know we're here," Kaiyo whispered to Sakura. The
two steadily followed Kenske. Kenske stopped abruptly, looking down at the
ground. There was a young man lying face first on the ground. He was
wearing jeans and a T-shirt. He didn't seem to much younger than Kenske.
The only thing that managed to catch their attention was the fact that he
had a tail. He had a long reptilian tail coming from his back.
"What is he?" asked Sakura.
"He's a...a Demon," Kenske said.
"You really think so?" asked Kaiyo.
"I'd bet on it," Kenske answered.
"It looks hurt," Sakura said, "Maybe we should call the police or
something."
"Good Idea," Kenske said. They began to slowly back away from the
fallen creature. Before they could get even a few feet away, a brilliant
flash of light came shined down from the sky. They three friends shielded
their eyes, trying to find the source. As the light faded, A figure came
into their view. He was about seven feet tall. His black hair tied behind
him ran down his back. He also had two large white feathered wings
protruding from his back. He wore long robes as well as minor armor. He
also had a pure white marble mask over his face. The piercing emotionless
gaze it had sent shivers through Kaiyo's spine.
"I think that we should leave now!" Kaiyo said urgently.
"Wait, it's a, it's an angel!" Kenske said, his mouth hanging wide
open.
"A what!" Sakura and Kaiyo said.
"Just look at it! It's an angel, come to slay the demon!" Kenske
said, his eyes open wide. He hardly noticed the demon beginning to stir
behind him. The "angel" began to walk forward towards the demon. Kenske
was frozen by awe, he couldn't move.
"Move!" the "angel" said, as it reached Kenske. Kenske couldn't even
manage a word, all he could do was stare in awe. Behind him, the demon
managed to regain his balance. "Move NOW!" the "angel yelled, drawing the
sword at it's waist. The demon ran up behind Kenske, grabbing for his arms,
the "Angel" raised it's sword, slashing forward, and piercing Kenske's
chest. It swung him to the side, and dashed at the Demon.
"KENSKE!" Kaiyo yelled.
"OH GOD!" Sakura yelled, she ran towards Kenske, Tears filled her
eyes. The demon smacked the "angel" into the wall of a building, sending
it's sword across the ground. The monstrous figure landed within five feet
of Sakura. Paralyzed, she watched as the angel's mask began to crack. The
angel quickly knocked Sakura back with one swing of his arm. She flew back,
ramming into Kaiyo.
"Sakura! Sakura!" Kaiyo yelled. She was knocked out, but basically
unharmed. "Kenske!" Kaiyo said, remembering his friend. He looked over to
where he had landed, his friend's movement had seized and he now lay still,
blood dripping from the wound that the angel had inflicted on him.
"Kenske!" he yelled, running over to his friends side while the Angel and
the demon were preoccupied. By the time he made it there, it was too late,
Kenske was no longer breathing. Tears filled Kaiyo's eyes, he looked to his
fallen friend. His sadness was soon replaced by anger, "YOU BASTARD!" he
said, turning toward the fighters. The angel had about cornered the injured
demon, using his armored gauntlet to keep him backing up. Kaiyo looked to
his right, where the angel's sword had fallen. In a fit of rage, he grabbed
the five foot long blade and stumbled to his feet. He raised the blade,
tears streaming from his eyes, he ran at the angel, "DIE!!" he yelled. The
angel turned around, it's ivory mask, staring Kaiyo in the face. Kaiyo ran
full force, burying the long blade in the center of the mask. The angel let
out a piercing scream, it smoke the ground, knocking Kaiyo back. "Now die
you bastard!" he yelled. The mask shattered into two pieces, falling to the
ground. The angel was holding his face, rearing back in pain. Kaiyo took
his change and slashed the sword straight into the angel's chest, slashing
sideways. A beam of light emanated from the wounds that Kaiyo had
inflicted. A great flash of light filled the alley, and the pure force
knocked Kaiyo into the wall, knocking him unconscious. "Sakura...Kenske..."
he managed to mutter before all went black.
