Desert winds blowing
Across the flowing dunes
As dry as dust.
No hint of moisture
Is in the air.
A desolate landscape.

The sun blazes down
On the parched
And empty land
As waves of heat
Lift towards the uncaring sky.
The desert rose droops
In mute supplication
And hardy cacti cling
To the broken surface
Waiting for the rains.

A shift.
The desert wind blows again,
But different this time.
A faint sensation in the air.
Clouds being to move
Across the sky.
Gathering at the horizon.
Thunder from the west.
The rain is coming at last.
