The Labyrinth

Chapter One

Aiemes looked around her. Darkness surrounded her like water; she couldn’t even see her hand directly in front of her face. She reached to her pockets and tried to find anything that would break the darkness. She found some matches and lit one.

It flared but even though it gave a small glow all Aiemes could see was darkness. The fear of never getting out of this place started to creep up in her mind. This had happened the last time and the time before that. And every time she had run away from it. This time was no exception. She turned, hopefully the right way, and started to frantically grope her way back to the entrance, back to the light.

She was on her hands and knees now crawling on the floor towards the entrance. She was moving faster now. The darkness seemed to thin around her and she found it easier to breath all of a sudden. Then she hit a wall in front of her. She searched with her hands for the small opening that would lead her out of this place. Out of the darkness and into the light.

She found the opening a little to her left. It was only about two feet in width and a foot and a half high but Aiemes was just small enough to fit through with some room to spare, but she didn’t fear getting stuck here. She feared getting stuck in the darkness beyond. Every time she entered she would get just a little bit father than the last but her confidence wouldn’t last very long for she would feel the darkness trying to wrap itself around her and would turn and run.

When she got through the opening she ran. She knew this part of the tunnel well. The crew had brought in floodlights and archeologists and so she had studied everything within the outer caves. They had found only the small opening through which they had sent Aiemes. And yet though she had tried so many times she had never gotten any more than a hundred feet on the opening.

There it was, she saw it. The light of the sun, the beautiful light. She ran out and collapsed into the arms of the nearest archeologist who was digging around the entrance.

“Medic! Someone get the medic Aiemes is back.” He called as he lifted her up and took her towards the camp.

A/N: This is a repost of an old story just so you guys know. I always wanted to do a story about an archeologist knowing that what they do is not all digging and looking a old stuff but it can be a lot more exciting than all that. That in no way means my story has any truth. Please review folks!
