She watched the clouds take their shape overhead. They were beautiful. A darkened barren land was where she made a home. Everyone she had known had abandoned for who she was.
She sat down on the rough earth surface. The wind blew towards the south. Thunder was heard. She looked up to see that the clouds were gloomy, with their own problems and darkness to pour out.
She was cast from society.
Her long raven hair rested on her shoulders, her pitch-black eyes watching the approaching storm. Her wings, black as night wrapped around her body, keeping the chillness out. She studied her wings for a second, wondering why God had chosen this way. Why, when God loved every one of his children, would she be hated? She pondered this for a few minutes, and then returned her attention to the darkened sky.
The rain soon started to come down, thunder signaling its anger. The wings that were covering her body were now trying to shield the oncoming rain. Lighting was seen in the distance. The land was so flat that you could see for miles. The rain kept coming down; there was no end to it. It kept getting colder… colder…
Her name was Shayna. She was born and lived in Calgary. She lived her life like any other female.
She was a lesbian. She came out to her family, who threatened to disown her if she did not go back to “normal”. Feeling completely alone, she left.
On that one fateful day, she waited one second too late to cross the street. Shayna was struck by an oncoming car, driven by a drunk driver who had decided to drink one more beer than he should have.
Shayna was thought to have been dead on impact. She was rushed to the hospital.
She stayed alive, thanks to medical technology, except that the collision had sent her into a coma.
Shayna was sent into a dream world, where everyone had their moods shape them. There were more people in the dream world, called Abeyuium.
She just needed to find them.
