Your Smile

Somber classes and lonely days
Life goes on, bliss but a flicker
Imagination runs wild in the heat
Dreams of fairytales and castles far away

Then a rude awakening
A jolt down the spine
I sit upright, gazing
At the sweet smile that is yours

Your smile melt me heart
I gaze deep in your eyes
My life churns before me
As I contemplate my next move

I see myself on a chessboard
I’m the king, checked
No moves left, save but one
To approach the queen

Yet I am hesitant
For that move will save me
But might give way to a check-mate
Hesitant for my life, my dreams

So dare I take the plunge?
To embrace you and hold you?
To ensure your smile echoes day by day
To keep my lonely heart warm

My mind set, my gaze fixed,
Slowly I make my move
Treading ever so lightly
Approaching the fair lady

My future flashes before my eyes
The thousand possibilities
Endless futures and couriers
All stop in a blink
As I behold her smile
Radiating like the sun
To whatever end, I say
I’ll be here.
