The Watcher

By: Ferretti

" Sarah? Honey? You have to eat something. I know you don’t want to be hospitalized again." Her mother pleaded as she knocked on the door. Since finding the letter Sarah had stopped eating. She had managed to make it back to her house and into her room. She stared at the wall every day, not eating, not sleeping, and not moving.

" Let me try Kate. Sarah? I’m coming in." Her dad knocked twice before reaching to twist the knob so he could enter her room. He paused as he stared at the curve of his daughter’s back. Nodding to Kate he closed the door behind him turning to once more face his daughter.

" Sarah I know you don’t want to talk about it and I guess I’m partially okay with that." He sat down on the edge of her bed. Sarah barely twitched as he continued talking. " When you are ready to talk about whatever happened six months ago we’ll be here, waiting."

Just as John was about to leave Sarah rolled over, tears tracing shining paths down her cheeks.

" Daddy." She whispered sitting up to wrap him in a hug, something which she hadn’t done in years. The two held each other as Sarah sobbed the last of her tears. The Watcher looked on through the window his own tears mirroring hers.

" I’ll be back." He whispered words thick with promise. Sarah turned her head quickly to the window before moving just as quickly to untangle the sheets and run to the window searching the skies for some glimpse.

" I’ll be waiting." She answered pressing her forehead against the cool glass.
