The rosy hues of sunset coat the sultry summer skies
The screeching chirps of crickets blend with bluebird's cries
Night will fall, star-strewn, with still winds by and by
Warm midnights touched by breezes, rustling the grasses dry
The greenest leaves blend with brown as the towering trees
Hold fast to the fertile ground, unswayed by a lazy breeze
That so seldom drifts through the air, whispering to leas
And disturbing the honey harvesters, the ever-working bees
A season fair and a season calm, as tranquil heat does the earth subdue
A season of growth and delight, disturbed by wind and rainstorms few
Where deer fawns graze and play about, under the clear skies so blue
Before a silent night softly falls, bringing with it a cloak of dew
