Fading

I gaze up at your ledge
Looking upon your beautiful form
My heart breaks and my tears flow
Small slow flutters of water

Why do you tease me so?
Have I wronged you somehow?
What manner of sin have I performed,
that I should be cursed so?

You give a glimmer of hope
A thin ray of light
Yet in an instant you extinguish it
Clenching with your fist,
Till the flames die

And with the flames my heart follows suit
Slowly, steadily, fading, dying
Till at last I have but one breath
One last gasp of air
And with it I say,
I’ll be waiting….
