FADE IN

1 EXT. BOAT - NIGHT

A large white boat sits peacefully in the middle of an ocean. The water is calm. A roaring sound is heard, slowly becoming louder.

2 EXT. SPEEDBOAT - NIGHT

Through choppy water, a speedboat comes racing dangerously through the ocean. GRACE, a woman in her thirties, is at the wheel, violently spinning it and forcing the boat to stay upright. Grace is distressed - she's crying and the half-empty glass of vodka is shaking in her hand.

FLASHBACK

3 EXT. BEACH - DAY

A FOUR YEAR OLD GRACE slowly walks through a riptide at a beach. Suddenly she loses her footing and disappears under the water. Her arms flail desperately.

4 INT. CHURCH - DAY

Grace, now twenty, and GABRIEL, then in his thirties, stand in front of the altar on their wedding day. While Gabriel looks gravely serious, Grace looks up at him in admiration.

RETURN TO SCENE

5 EXT. SPEEDBOAT - NIGHT

Grace holds on loosely to the wheel as she wipes at her eyes furiously. Vodka splashes over the top of the glass while water sprays over the sides of the boat.

FLASHBACK 6 EXT. BEACH - DAY

The white boat sits calmly in the peaceful water. Gabriel is standing on the deck, looking proud and smiling up at something.

7 CONT EXT. PIER - DAY

Above Gabriel stands Grace, facing him. She looks terrified at the idea of getting on the boat. The water crashes violently against the pier's posts.

8 EXT. OCEAN - DAY

In the distance stands Gabriel on his boat. Alongside him pulls up a sailboat and on it, a YOUNG WOMAN. They begin to converse. In the background Grace can be seen on the beach, watching them.

9 EXT. BOAT WINDOW - NIGHT

Through the lit-up window of the white boat, Gabriel and the young woman kiss.

SMASH CUT

RETURN TO SCENE

10 EXT. SPEEDBOAT - NIGHT

The glass smashes against the side of the speedboat.

SMASH CUT

11 EXT. OCEAN - NIGHT/UNDERCOVER

Above the calm ocean, shards of the glass fly through the air, vodka sprinkling into the water.

12 EXT. OCEAN - NIGHT

Wide shot. The speedboat glides close to the boat through calm water. The speedboat pulls up alongside the boat. Grace cuts the engine, climbs aboard and lets the speedboat drift away. Grace strides across the deck and into the cabin.

13 INT. CABIN - NIGHT

Grace strides across the darkened cabin to a closed door. She opens it.

14 CONT INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

The lights flick on inside the bedroom. Grace stands inside the doorway while Gabriel, now in his forties, and the young woman are in bed. /they wake up groggily, then look shocked to see her. Grace switches off the light.

15 CUT TO: EXT. BOAT - NIGHT

Grace slowly walks out onto the boat deck. The water is still choppy, and Grace stands at the edge, looking down into the ocean. She turns back to look at Gabriel, who stands in the open doorway. They stare at each other for a moment, then Grace takes a step backwards and falls into the ocean.

16 CONT EXT. OCEAN - NIGHT

Splashing erupts as Grace hits the water, but when the splashing subsides Grace lies in the water peacefully. As she begins to drift downwards, the water fades from choppy to calm. Natural light filters through the water.
