The Future
I stare in awe and quiet at thy face,
A visage of such innocence and peace.
Already 'sleep although there be no haste,
Embracing thee, I would that time could cease.
Within these foolish hours of my youth
I think and sigh of all that could be done.
I wonder if thy words do speake me sooth,
And thou wilt still adore me once I'm gone
Across the land and far from thy kind eyes,
Thy promise of devotion and of care.
For while I'm here such passion twixt us flies
But such exchange may falter when I'm there
So far from thee, and home, and sight, and touch,
Of four the senses clipp'd for periods long.
I fear thou wilt soon see me as a crutch,
Ages past use or want when thou canst run
Away from youth's sweet love, my heart, and years
Ahead of hope- Oh those be all my fears!
