Oh, the Magic of Christmastime!
Prologue
Taking A Break
Angela Jonston, at age 27, was exactly where she wanted to be in life…… kind of. As a teenager, she couldn’t wait to get out of her historic small town in Connecticut. Now, even though she had the title role in Annie, Get Your Gun! (A role she longed for through high school), she just wanted to be home.
She had been playing the role for about a year or two now, but she had been on Broadway for going on five years, ever since she graduated from The American Academy for Dramatic Arts at age 22. Minor roles, understudy parts, and pit choir shows were what she did until she was 25.
This year, however, her voice was starting to drop in quality. Perhaps her homesickness had something to do with it. No matter what, she needed a rest. Her Christmas season shows were out because she was going home.
It was funny because when she was younger, her home was the theater. Now, she needed a break to rest her voice. Her understudy (and NYC best friend) Johanna Harris was to take over the busy season for her.
“Alright, so you have all the lines and notes…” Angela began, for what was probably the five-hundredth time as they drove to Grand Central through the snow and slush coming down on the poor, little, dark red car.
“Down pat. Yes, Angela! You just rest your voice, young lady. Where are you going, by the by?” Johanna inquired. A smile slowly worked its way across Angela’s face.
“I’m going home.”
