Ana's POV

"Ana!"

I was just getting on the bus when I heard a familiar voice call my name. I sighed and got off the bus.

"Miss Thompson? Are you taking this bus?" Mr. Anderson gave me a questioning look.

"No, sir." I shook my head and turned around.

Dyllan ran up to me, and ran his hand through his hair. My eyes followed his hand. His hair was brown, streaks of red through it, catching the warm sun that was shining down on us. Beads of sweat glistened on his forehead.

I rolled my eyes. "What?" As an afterthought, I added, "You better give me a lift home, you know."

He grinned, and I felt my knees go weak. Talk about a cliché. "Yeah, sure."

We walked up to the back of the school, and then turned into the side street. It had always been like that for us, just walking in complete silence, not really having anything to say.

"It's my last day," Dyllan blurted out.

I looked away from him. "I know." I hoped he didn't notice the tremble in my voice.

We continued walking until we reached his car. Dyllan came over and opened the door on my side and I stepped in.

He got into the car, but made no move to put the key into the ignition.

"Ana, what's up."

I turned to face him. "Stop it Dyl. Stop. You're not leaving anytime soon, you just gotta do your exams."

He looked down at his hands, which were fiddling with the keys. "We can't avoid it you know," he said quietly.

I stared out the window. "What do you want me to say?"

He shrugged.

I saw his reflection in the mirror turn to face out his window.

"Ana, this is stupid."

I turned back to face him, angry. "Dyl, you and me. We were over a long time ago. You said yourself that the age difference was too big. And you were right. So why the hell are we having this conversation?"

He swallowed, his Adam's Apple bopping up and down. "Ok. Fine."

The scenery outside was beginning to look more and more interesting.

Fifteen minutes went by and Dyllan pulled up into my driveway.

I cast a glance over to him. He was my best friend, but he was right. We did have to talk about things. "I never stopped loving you," I said, as I pulled my bag onto my lap.

I could almost see his ears perk up.

"But it hurt, Dyl, it really hurt."

I got out of the car, too scared to hear his reply, a stray tear running down my cheek.

Dyllan's POV

She closed the door on my before I could say anything. "I love you," I said to an empty car. I hit the steering wheel in frustration. I still loved her, but I'd left it too late to tell her.

I looked up, making sure she got in the house alright, and felt my heart tighten when she turned to face me. A tear had made its way down her face, and others followed it. I ducked my head, trying to pretend that I hadn't seen her.

I drove off before it dawned on me. I'd made my best friend, and the girl I loved, cry. She was all I had, and I'd let her down.

I heard my mobile phone beep. A message. I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at the screen.

BASTARD.

There was no name, no nothing. Only a phone number, which I vaguely recognised. I dialled the number.

"Dyllan you are a good for nothing bastard. You swore that you weren't like the rest of them and now she's come home crying. I’m not stupid, you know."

It was Matt, Ana's older brother, who also happened to be a friend of mine.

"Matt!" I protested.

"Shut up Dyl. Don't come near her again, or I swear I'll beat you to a bloody pulp. You hurt her once, don't hurt her again."

I opened my mouth to reply, but a dial tone sounded in my ear. I began to dial the number again, but stopped. What was the point? I didn't have the guts to tell her I loved her, and I was off to England the next day. I was supposed to tell her but…

A/N: So? What do you think? I dunno… I think it's a little weird, but I have some idea of where this is going… please REVIEW!! =) it would be much appreciated!
