Game of Trust
By: Lauren
Close your eyes,
Inhale so deep
And let yourself fall
Down, down, falling backwards
Will the person standing behind you,
Catch you before it is too late?
A game of trust
A game so simple
Fall, and trust the people around you
To catch you,
Support you,
And place you upright once again
What if you can't let yourself fall?
What if something inside you,
Holds you back?
A fear, a single fear that you'll get hurt
You begin to fall backwards,
But stumble and stop yourself
It's not that you don't trust the others
You're nervous and afraid
What if they slip?
What if they miss?
What if they're unable to hold you up?
You'll crash into the cold, hard floor
You might get bruised,
Lose your breath, becoming
Broken and bloody
You'll be hurt
Is it worth that risk?
Is trust worth the risk of pain?
But how wonderful it would be
To not worry, and just fall and be caught
Such a feeling is something I want to obtain
Bruises fade away
Scabs heal
Scars can be proudly worn
I want to experience the rush of the fall,
As foolish as it may sound
I want the relief of being caught
And the warmth of someone's strong arms,
Encompassing me safely
Still, I instinctively catch myself
It's a natural reaction,
To try to protect myself from pain
I must override this logic
I must listen to my heart,
I can't ruin the game
So I let myself go
Falling, falling
Wind rushing around my body and soul
I brace myself,
Wondering if I'll feel an impact or not
But, no matter what happens.
No matter what the end result
I'll just enjoy the fall.
