Dangling batons hung on lines
Cables droop like willow vines
Floors and walls all painted black
Mics and lights mounted on racks
Each seat, with its velvet cushion
Shall see no customers anxiously pushing
Their ways down the aisles and into the rows
Flooding the playhouse to see the fine shows
When empty, a theatre is not much to se
But oh, what a wondrous place it can be!
Theatres have a mystical, magical power
To drag you away from your life for an hour
The actors and costumes, the set and the props
The backstage crew who pulls out all the stops
Are what make each performance such a delight
To take you away from reality for the night
